I am absolutely delighted - especially so for Andy, who invested so much in it and who I think would have been devastated if they didn't make it. I'm stiff as a board - had to watch upstairs as the OH was watching the GP - but it was worth every bit of discomfort.
How nice to see that James, Dan and Dom all got their winners copy trophies as well.
To quote Steven, 79 years of hurt never stopped us dreaming, and now the dream has come true. Mainly thanks to Andy - and Leon - but the others all played their part.
Just WOW!!!!!!!!
"Yes" to all the above re SPOTY!
And yes, great that ALL the players got medals and trophies.
FANTASTIC
Never thought I'd see the day!
Goffin put up a very worthy display today so all credit to him and it makes the win all the sweeter for having been well earned (prime examples being the point for the second set and, of course, the point which sealed it). Well done Andy and all the team :D :D :D
And as said, great that James and Dan part of it all in the moment of glory. Two years ago, they extraordinarily turned that match vs Russia to then take us into the 2013 World Group Play-Off. That so relatively soon after leading on to 2015 Champions !!!!
Leon Smith must have completed one of the greatest jobs as coach in the history of Davis Cup tennis. Takes over on the brink of relegation to the fourth tier, achieves two promotions and then wins the whole thing inside five years. Utterly remarkable. And the best thing is that he comes across as an incredibly genuine guy too.
I think the best thing about this triumph is just how many British players played their part in it, all the way back to the third tier. Jamie Baker, Dan Evans, James Ward, Dom Inglot, Jonny Marray, Jamie Murray, Colin Fleming, Ross Hutchins. Only poor Josh Goodall and Kyle Edmund who didn't manage a win, but we'll let them off.
Edit: Oh and that Murray fella, he did alright too.

Great performance for all involved, and big thanks to the Belgians for going ahead and staging the event under difficult conditions and helping make it such a great occasion.

Yes, the achievement of Leon Smith is just amazing.
When Leon Smith was first appointed there was a fair bit of "Who?" reaction from some quarters. It was said his main qualification was that he had a strong connection to Andy. I think its fair to say he has proved his worth now......he'll be able to work anywhere in tennis on the strength of this!
