Looking at the qualifying draw, it is quite weak.

Last direct acceptance was 694 plus loads of wildcards.

Em will be licking her lips - $764 just for turning up and a winnable match worth 10pts and just over a grand in prize money.

Definitely worth the risk.

IF she wins her first round match, she is likely the play the Spanish Q 4th seed ranked 201 in the world.

Em had a comfortable 6-2 6-1 win, and does now play the above mentioned Spaniard, Paula Badosa Gibert, who is the current French Open Junior champion.

In the MD, Hev has a decent draw, but the young Russian is on a steady unbroken rise over the last6months, and should not be under-estimated.

R1: Heather WATSON (GBR) 56 vs. Elizaveta KULICHKOVA (RUS) 103 (= CH)

If that's 10 points, then that's her highest counter for the whole year.

She's got a LOT of points coming off this autumn too - so well done Em - and good luck.

Watched Badosa Gibert against Pliskova in Miami earlier in the year, and she's very solid - particularly dangerous serve and backhand, though did get overpowered in the end.

Badosa saved 12(!) match points from 5-1 down in the second set. Hsu served for it at 5-3 40-0 and had 15-40 at 5-4 as well. Quite the choke!

Em loses 64 63

Few half chances but the Spaniard seemed in control today. Shame Hsu didn't finish her off yesterday lol.

Still, can't complain with 10 points.

Heather in action now . There is a stream but it's not stable on my phone here. Lost the 1st set, now serving for the 2nd at 5 - 3.
