RE: Week 37 - WTA International Coupe Banque Nationale, Quebec City, Canada(Carpet)

What I saw of the Glatch v Maria match was patchy with occasional moments of quality, so Naomi should have a chance if she serves well.

R2: (LL) Naomi Broady WR 157 vs Alexa Glatch (USA) WR 144 (CH 102 08/09)

Glatch beat no 6 seed and WR 66 Tatjana Maria (GER) in 3 sets, but certainly some encouragement in what kundalini says.

Big opportunity for Naomi now that Madison Keys has pulled out. There are no top 100 players left in her side of the draw. Someone currently ranked outside the top 100 is going to get 180 points for reaching the final (with the possibility of getting 280 if they win the event), another is going to get 110 points for losing in the semis.

If ever there was a time to play well, this is it.

As has been mentioned this is just about as good a chance as you ll get to get some serious points and prize money. If he did somehow win this title she'd be top 100 interestingly with few points to defend. Big ask but possible given recent form and a bit of luck.

Naomi had 6 bps in that last game but failed to get the break. Mix of some super play from Glatch and some poor errors.

Naomi breaks at the start of the 2nd set. Several stunning shots from Naomi in a high quality, lengthy opening game. *1-0

Naomi holds to love 2-0*

Alexa rather implodes with two dfs and a couple of forehand errors to gift another break *3-0

Naomi with 3 aces including two 2nd serve aces and a sensational backhand down the line winner 4-0*

Alexa holds to 30 *4-1

Big serving from Naomi as she holds to 15 5-1*

Alexa with another comfortable hold to 30 *5-2

2 more aces from Naomi as she holds to love 6-2

In the 2nd set Naomi was ridiculously good. She made 2 unforced errors by my count, 3 if you including a 2nd serve she failed to return. In order to win a point Alexa either had to hit a great first serve or combine a great serve with a super initial ground-stroke. That was top 50 standard tennis from Naomi with the exception of two poor volleys and rather wasting some of the break point chances she had in the opening set.
