The Martin twins (born April 2001) are playing for the second week out in Africa:

R1:

Destinee MARTINS (GBR)     6-0 6-0     Carmen KPADONOU (BEN) [5]

Essence MARTINS (GBR)     6-1 6-2     Chelsea AGAOUGA (BEN) [10]

 

The media love to portray these girls as the next Williams sisters; it's a bit facile but it's quite an interesting story, what with their father and all....

R2 Boys:

Julian ROBINSON (GBR) [15] def. Shola Olaolu ALALADE (NGR) 6-0 6-0


R3 Girls:

Destinee MARTINS (GBR) def. Korotoumou KEITA (MLI) [11] 6-0 6-2

Essence MARTINS (GBR) def. Adetayo ADETUNJI (NGR) [7] 6-2 6-2


Excellent results from the girls, in particular. (And they won their doubles R1 too).

Very nice result for Julian but the girls got knocked out of the singles:

R3 Boys:

QF Girls:

Destinee MARTINS (GBR) lost to Korotoumou KEITA (MLI) [11] 6-0 6-2

Essence MARTINS (GBR) lost to Adetayo ADETUNJI (NGR) [7] 6-2 6-2


The Martins twins are into the semis in the doubles though.

Julian came through a nail-biter:

Quarterfinal

Julian ROBINSON (GBR) [15] def. Ahmed Akintola ALAMU (NGR) [12] 3-6 7-5 7-6(5)

First time he's made a semi (or a quarter, come to that) so congrats to him and good luck.


The Martin girls lost their doubles semi, 4 & 1, against the top seeds.
