Em had a sniff of taking the second set at 15-30, but Chang won the next three points, then broke open a tight tiebreak which was even the whole way to win 6-1 7-6(5)
Real shame for Em, a great fight in the second (she actually won one more point) and she did have her chances. Hopefully she feels it's been a good positive week, even if the points haul feels a little stingy. Definitely a big step up in form, hopefully it can continue although it looks like she might have an enforced week off as she's still a long way from making the cut in Tokyo qualies.
Doubles tomorrow.

Pity, but yes very encouraging few days. Glad we ( Paul ) noticed
Beating two top 250 ranked players pretty handily and being so close in the second set to the WR 151 is by a distance the best looking results and form seen from Emily in a good while.
Yes, relatively stingy 6 qualifying points here ( the further 15 points for a R1 win would have been great ), but that added to her Winnipeg 9 points takes her to 108 points, probably into the top 350 and to GB number 6.
Now bottle that form for a little while, Emily.

That moment when you know you are right and there's absolutely nothing you can do about it. Other than make your point. Quite clearly. With fire in your heart. And bite in your words. #itstheprincipleofthematter #stillangry #smalllionpacing
Em and Nao drop the first set 6-3, which is a bit of a surprise against a scratch pair (albeit Bojana is obviously a very good singles player). Missed a break point in their opponents final two service games.
