Adding my thanks for report RJA.

Think you're right about Cox-Pauffley, Dan is solid player whose serve isn't usually strong enough to dominate but whose all round game keeps asking questions, Pauffley will need to be consistent and patient to beat him, will be very good test of his recent improvement.

I don't think that consistent and patient is Neil's style. His game is based around trying to finish points quickly, stepping in and taking control of the rallies at the first opportunity. That is how he needs to play, if he tries to out grind Cox he will lose badly.

Beating players into the dirt when he knows he'll win is not typical behaviour for Dan, but I think it is a very positive sign.

Indeed. He is 25 now so maybe it is finally dawning on him that he does not have forever if he wants to have good career.

Neil was, I think, leading 5-2

But Dan Cox came back to win the set 7-5

Dan Evans took the first set in a TB

Evo gets the decisive second set break and win the second 6-3 biggrin Hopefully he can win the final now to keep on moving up the rankings

And Neil takes the second set. Which seems fair given he was 5-2 up in the first.

So let the third set decide....

It was. Courts drying out now. Started to chuck it down about 2 minutes after Evo finished Pavic off!

Notice that Neil frequently getting off to a strong lead in first set then opponents coming back need to figure out whats going wrong with a good coach attending these matches I am sure could figure it out !

its not fitness might be tactical awareness when you watch Neil hit you cant help thinking that his ranking should be significantly higher

Mr Pauffley is the kind of player whom one rather assumes would make the most of any coaching assistance he was offered. I can't really play favourites in this particular match: both Mr Cox and Mr Pauffley are players whom I admire for their work ethic and their use of their talents, and both have always come across as very decent people. It would be lovely to see them both moving forward and doing well. That said, Mr Pauffley has had more than his fair share of difficult draws, so I might just shade towards hoping he makes it through this time ...

So those who have seen Neil play - what kind of ranking do you think would be 'reaching his potential'?

Unfortunately he did. Few things didn't go right today. Neil should have served it out in the first set and thenCox came out much better than Neil after the rain delay. Also would have helped if he wasn't play Cox. As RJA says, Cox is a grinder, which is completely against Neil's style of play, so he will always struggle. Still a positive week for Neil and a big shoot up the rankings. Has a niggle in his knee which apparently feels similar to when he had to have an op on his cartilage. I'm hoping it's just due to being tired after a lot of matches in the last fortnight.
