As 'old timers', Josh Goodall, harry Meehan and George Coupland all having a go.
I'll be curious (for a variety of reasons) to follow youngster Sanghera, also Luke Oakley, Jonnie Gray, Curtis Clarke, Marcus walters and Enrique Vidal.
I'm quite interested to see how Max Stewart gets on in qualifying.
Not easy to work out the wildcards, but I'd guess Evan Hoyt, Dan Cox, Dan Evans and one other.
Young Tiran Sanghera walked his first round, (as did 16 year-old Michael Shaw and 17 year-old Samuel Ferguson):
Tiran SANGHERA (GBR) 6-0 6-0 Mihail VOROBIEV (GBR)
Samuel FERGUSON (GBR) 6-0 6-4 Matthew CHADWICK (GBR)
Isaac STOUTE (GBR) 6-3 7-6(2) Luke STEVENSON (GBR)
Michael SHAW (GBR) 6-0 6-0 David ADDAWOO (GBR)
Osgar O'Hoisin (IRL) bt Nicholas Nugent by 5 & 4
James Oni bt James Mitchell 6-3 5-7 7-5
Kyle Fellows bt Cheraag Bajwa by 2 & 2
(qWC) Max Stewart bt Jakub Wojcik (USA) by 3 & 4
Luke Oakley bt Rohan Sikka by 0 & 3
(qWC) Andrew Rozanov bt Kenichiro Oishi by 3 & 1
(qWC) Jonathan Gray by Aneil Persad by 4 & 3
I think after a break of a few months Oli formerly retired last December. I think he still plays at county level but I don't think he has any plans to return (not that I know him personally but he has made no indication on Twitter that he back training etc).
On top of the three mentioned above, nice to see the wins of Max Stewart, age 16, and 18 year-old juniors Jonnie Gray and Luke O.
Andrew Rozanov gets the biscuit though, as the youngest, winning at age 15.
Add to this a win for 16 year-old Thomas W.:
Thomas WRIGHT (GBR) 6-2 6-3 Enrique VIDAL (GBR)
Matthew PORTER (GBR) 1-6 6-2 6-0 Scott LAWRENCE (GBR)
I can't remember the details but I seem to remember the Optimist (or someone else who knows GB junior tennis very well) saying last year that the LTA had changed their focus (linked to no more matrix funding?) and that juniors were now encouraged/obliged to take part in open events and not keep searching to clock up more points from low-ranking junior events.
There certainly seems to be an increase in the number of juniors taking part in our ITF events (including some quite young players). Very nice to see - all good experience - and why wouldn't you?
the change is that if you play in a higher age group you get more ranking points for what you would for the equivalent age. for example winning a grade 3 at u16 rewards less points than winning a grade 3 at u18 or open. previously it was the same. also for junior acceptence in competitions is now done by ranking points and for the leaderboards everyone is one the same ranking rather than different ones for each age group. hope this makes sense

Not completely but that's probably me.....
all ITF junior events are open to all juniors, i.e. U18.
It's only tennis europe events that are U16 or whatever.
So I understand for tennis europe but not how it applies to ITF juniors.
And does that mean that a junior gets LTA ranking points for a 10k Quali win, for instance? How does that compare to a R1 MD win in a G3 ITF event ? i.e. is adult tennis actually prioiritised?
In Roehampton, very pleased for young Tiran. Some other good results too:

oh apologies thats the changes to the lta local tournaments to stop players boosting their ratings by just playing matchplays. i know nothing about the international junior circuit!
UK domestic rankings now consist of a single list for male players and a single list for female players regardless of age.
Points are awarded at each stage of a domestic tournament according to the grade of tournament and the age band of the tournament. So, a semi-finalist in a grade 3 tournament will receive a certain number of points if it is a 12&U event, more if it is a 14&U event, etc with the most being earned in an open event.
Points earned in Tennis Europe events are included with a weighting to make them worth more than domestic points. Similarly junior ITF points are included with a more generous weighting. Points from professional tournaments are also included with the most generous weighting of all.
The idea of this is to encourage juniors to play up outside their comfort zone and to highlight who are the top kids in each age group regardless of where they play their tennis.
Edit: Entry into junior domestic tournaments is now by ranking rather than rating. System been running less than a yeR so still probably bedding in
