Jo loses 5-7 3-6, a more than creditable end to an absolutely fantastic run.
Unlucky to lose the first set, but Kvitova was on top throughout the 2nd set. Jo's general game was pretty good today, and her serving (break points excepted) was fantastic. However, Petra on a good day will beat pretty much anyone. The way Jo served today on its own would have beaten most opponents.
The only real negative I can think of is that the crowd was disappointing - for a high quality match the stadium was half empty and quiet and it seemed like lots of fans were just waiting for Roger to start.
So Andy is the last Brit left in a Grand Slam again - by a few minutes or (hopefully) a few days.

R4: KONTA, Johanna (GBR) Q 97 lost to KVITOVA, Petra (CZE) 5 4 5-7 3-6
Johanna was more than holding her own until the end of the first set but then Kvitova took control. Johanna got 5 break points early on but converted none of them, Kvitova got 2 break points and took both. So Johanna's excellent run finally came to an end but it took a top 5 player at the top of her game to do it. It will be exciting to see if she can carry her excellent recent form into matches over the rest of the year.
If there was a 'good' way to go out (and there probably isn't), that was it. She put in a performance she can be proud of without coming close enough to victory to have any regrets.
Not a case of it being a match too far for Jo, just her opponent was too good today.
What a shame, but Jo must take great credit for a very impressive performance tonight. Apart from a couple of points, she played a great match. Would have been fascinating to see how the 2nd and 3rd sets would have gone, if Jo had won the 1st, Petra could have easily cracked.
Looking forward to see how Jo fares week in week out on the full tour now, I have a feeling she'll do us all proud.
So glad for Ms Konta. To do so well - and then to play a good match against Kvitova on Ashe ... what more could one ask for at this stage? Well done she! Really has gone through this tournament like a top 20 player.
Jo was playing superbly in the first 10 games (outplaying the world #4 in fact) and from memory couldn't be blamed for wasting any of her BPs rather Kvitova hung tough with good play on them; a very creditable showing at the end of a wonderful USO: this was top 10 stuff
Edit: sorry Spectator; wasn't meaning to trump your top 20 comment!
