In the doubles ( do we have / need a separate thread ? ), unless I'm being extremely inattentive there is no Joss and Anna. I wasn"t keeping up to date, but I assume that they were gazumpted by late entries having looked just in at one stage
Laura & Kirsten Flipkens play Madison Keys & Lisa Raymond.
Laura & Kirsten's opponents having both been previous double's partners of Laura's; having reached the Miami final with Lisa, but thereafter was a damp squib.
Am trying to come up with some suitable joint name for Laura & 'Flipper' (as I believe she is known). Anyone ?
I assume the relatively lowly ranked players from USA in the doubles have been given Wild Cards or else they have much higher singles rankings, otherwise the likes of Joss and Anna would get a place in the draw.

I asume you mean other pairs rather than above since certainly Madison's singles ranking is being used as is Heather's.
Yes, I guess so re others.

The USTA, apparently, doesn't have the equivalent of the GBR+ rule that Wimbledon does ... so the current university champions knew that they (one of them being Canadian) would not get a WC. So they did the WC tournament instead and won that: tenniskalamazoo.blogspot.co.uk/2015/08/ncaa-champions-routliffe-and-jansen-win.html. Good for them - they've effectively earned the equivalent of two WCs (three, actually, as they evidently didn't get one last year, despite winning the university title). Pity that they've drawn Spears and Kops-Jones ... would have liked to see them win a few matches.
The winners of the national juniors championship get one as well; so have the 2013 university champions (who for some reason didn't get one in 2013, though they would have expected to do so). They, however, drew Mirza and Hingis.
Hope that Ms Rae and Ms Smith can move upwards in the last part of the year and be comfortably in for the AO.
Edit: mine was a response to the post above Indiana's - I thought it was a general query ... it hadn't occurred to me that it was with reference to Madison Keys. Apologies!
