I think this is a decent draw.

Lauren Davis is steady, but if you ranked all the players in the draw by how good they are when n top form I would put her pretty near the bottom of the list. This match will be a problem if Heather is off her game, which has happened recently, but will be straightforward if Heather plays well.

Good draw for Laura too, her best chance was to face a player capable of a bad day and Vesnina can be awful on an off day.

A much better draw than if the opponents had been reversed. Neither opponent in the top 80 so have to be happy with this draw.

Yes, pretty good draw and I agree about the draw looking the best way round.

Laura v Elena Vesnina is likely to be one ugly match if their recent stats are anything to go by. Both won one round of qualifying at New Haven. Vesnina failed to save a single bp (0/9) during her 2 matches. Her df rate of 11 in 50 second serves is nothing compared to Laura's 24 dfs in 71 second serves.

Laura couldn't have asked for a better draw. But then again, Vesnia's camp will be saying the same thing. Up to each to take advantage.

Hev V Davis tough one to call, if Grade A Hev turns up I will be very relaxed, but Grade B Hev or worse is more typical so that would make it 50/50.

Vesnina should be too tough, but Laura has an outside shot, and I agree a decent draw.

Both winnable games.

Laura's will be battle of the UEs by the sounds of things. I really hope she can take advantage of this weak draw and get some precious points on the table.
Heather has been abit unpredictable since she's added attack to her game, so I'm hopeful but not quite holding my breath. I'd love her to get a good run though. Well same with both really, but Laura had a great run a few years back and Heather hasn't done that here yet considering her CH.

The good thing about Lauras match is shes playing an opponent who can throw in a lot of errors and isn't playing a steady defensive player who I would be more worried about. This is a good draw and I hope she takes her good memories of the US Open to inspire her.

As for Watson you never know which Heather will turn up, she has the capacity to beat some good players but equally her form this year has seen some dreadful loses to much lower ranked players.

Re the thread title, says Mr Pernickety, if we are giving the US Open unusually a fuller title is it not ITF US Open rather than WTA US Open ?
