A bit tighter than I was expecting, but JoKo continues her great form with her 11th consecutive win! Hard to know what to expect from Osaka, but Jo will be favourite to win.
Much tougher than I expected, but maybe last week took alot out of her and she's probably not had as much prep time on the Flushing Meadow courts as she would ideally have liked.
Will need to step it up in R2.
The serving stats that set was probably down to nerves from Naomi more than anything else. Hopefully she can find some serving rhythm in the 2nd set, and quickly.
Can make such a huge difference for Naomi, that serve firing and not firing ( and these can be poles apart ).
Recent events have shown what can happen if she has it consistently good.
However, if it is off, the worry must be that the rest of her game is generally still not good enough to pull her through ( and of course lack of confidence from the serve could seep through anyway ).

Maybe, except that in the past she has often "lost" that serve in much more "run of the mill" matches than this.
Anyway, we all hope !

Happy to see Konta get through but her possible final round match worries me. Tamira Paszek could be a big problem, a former top 30 player who has had a lot of injuries and inconsistent but when shes good shes very good, hopefully if they both get through Paszek has one of her more inconsistent days!
