RE: Week 34 - US Open - qualifying

Oh, well done to Ms Konta, especially given her FQR opponent. Now on to the MD .... hope the draw is kind.

YESSSS !!!

Super for Jo to clinch qualifying in a match that had "DANGER" written large.

Well done

I suspect this'll be the last time Jo has to qualify for a GS for a long time, impressive ability to turn on the turbo boost when she went down the break in the decider.

Gutted for Naomi, so close but that 1st set was a tough one to lose.

Yes, Jo will now find it virtually impossible not to get direct main draw entry for the Aussie Open.

Be great if today is her sign-off to Slam qualifying for a very long time.

Well done Jo I stick by my thought similar to Brydan being above Ward by Aus Open that Jo will be above Heather as well. She's got game for the top 50 no doubt about it now.

Fantastic win (and winning run) for JoKo - barring withdrawals, this will be only the second time this century (since 1992, in fact) that 6 Brits have played in the two singles main draws at the same overseas slam - the other time was the 2012 Australian Open, when Andy, Bally, Anne & Heather were all DAs and James & Laura qualified.

Hoping now that Kyle won't make the rest of today's research redundant

Jo continues to impress, and fully deserves her spot in the main draw, and the way she is playing, whoever does draw her won't be happy about it. I'm looking forward to see her play in the 1st round (though Jo has an annoying habit of playing grand slam matches either not on a televised court or when I'm not able to watch)

However, as much as this has been a very successful qualifying tournament, it's hard for the overriding feeling not to be disappointment for Naomi. She was close to what would have been a significant first in her career and it would have been a great finish to an excellent few weeks for her but the first set tie-break ultimately proved crucial.

Disappointed to return home to discover Naomi lost, having just taken the 2nd set when I left. Hope she can have a strong autumn. She has massively out-performed my expectations this year.

Jo has drawn Louise Chirico USA WR120, with 9th seed Garbine Muguruza a likely R2 opponent, and potentially Laura in R3.

A winnable match for Konta, hopequally the match will be televised . I've been really impressed with Konta and her win against Paszek was impressive. Muguruza would be very difficult but her game is quite high risk and as we saw at Eastbourne she can make a lot of unforced errors.

Awesome stuff from Jo. She has been on fire since before the grass season and has just kept on going. Just goes to show what confidence can do to some players.

Gutted for Naomi but a few months ago i feared for Naomi but she's just gone and upped her level and results. With very little to defend top 150 should be her short term goal and try and be seeded for Aus open qualifiers.
