Very close indeed - and way more than I suspect anyone would have predicted for Ms Broady at some points earlier in the year. A good week; a good summer ... hope she can take the positives and keep the upward momentum.

I won't criticize Konta if she loses this match. Her opponent can be very good and as we saw at Wimbledon a few years ago by beating Wozniaki, Paszek at her best is a very difficult opponent.

Real pity, but great to see how Naomi has progressed again.

In the strange world of women's qualifying ranking points Naomi still gets 30 ranking points and qualifiers ( and ultimately the qualifying competition is about trying to qualify for the main draw ) get 40 points, just 10 more.

But really it's about much more than these strange relative ranking points and it would have been great for her to have qualified for the MD of the US Open and then you just never know at least in R1. Decent draw and she'd have well not a puncher's chance, but a big server's chance if it was "on" on the day. Hope she takes many positives and has a good end to the season. Could yet challenge her CH before the year is out.
