Both Jo and Naomi are in such good form I was half expecting them to draw each other, and thankfully that didn't happen.biggrin

Hard not to be confident about Round 1. Jani looked pretty ordinary when I saw her in the 2014 Fed Cup and should be no match for Jo in current form. Krejcikova appears to be a clay court specialist who hasn't set foot on a hard court since February. In fact I'm going to be unusually decisive and predict two wins right now.

Both could face big hitting but erratic asian players in q2 (Naomi Osaka and Ying-Ying Duan).

JoKo stat of the day: she is 14-1 from the opening match of her last 15 tournaments. Given the 1 was v Sharapova that is some incredible consistency.

Looks like both Johanna & Naomi will play on Wednesday, as neither are on the OOP published for tomorrow.

Kat Stewart/Osaka potential R2 Peer/Paszek potential R3 for Jo, so potential banana skins there.

Good that Jo has the extra day after her trek from Vancouver :D
Looking forward to her justifying her seeding :)

Here's hoping Naomi's serve continues to fire :)

GL both

Ms Konta's potential FQR, should she reach it, could be quite high quality. Hope that both women can keep up their excellent momentum. Upwards and onwards - lovely to be feeling so encouraged about their entries into the tournament.

It's all good stuff on offer, let's face it GS qualifying for the grounded UK tennis fan is pretty exciting when there are no wild cards particularly when we have players on the cusp of the top 100. Naomi also has a punchers chance of decent progress ( more power to her elbow) and it's not like they are going to knock each other out.

This may have been noted elsewhere but Amy Sargeant is playing with American Varhid Mirzadeh in the pre-qualies mixed doubles playoff event in New Haven.

One word of caution, last time Jo came into the US Open in brilliant form with two Canadian ITF titles, she played terribly and lost to Rogowska in the first round.

She seems to be a bit more consistent now when she gets going, so hopefully no repeat of that.
