Good to see Freya and Katy back on the winning trail. There are no seeds left in their half of the draw, so who knows. One more upset for each of the GB girls and we are guaranteed a finalist.......
Freya is one of the few GB girls outside the top 500 that has the potential to make a decent living from tennis. Katy should be ranked a lot higher, but has had a very disappointing season.
So in your opinion Paulisi, who else outside the top 500 might make a decent living from tennis? Always interested in hearing about who it is worth following more closely (of the less known girls.)
Well - there aren't many ranked girls outside the top 500 with decent prospects. If you exclude Katie Swan and Laura Robson, then there is only really Katie Boulter, Freya Christie, Lisa Whybourn and maybe Jodie Burrage who could break into the top 250. Mirabelle Njoze, I know little about, but results show potential. After that you are looking at the likes of Eleanor Dean, Sam Murray and Emily Arbuthnott and then you would have to go through the junior ranks and US college players to try and dig out more names, but they might be a couple of years away.
Actually from folk's combined thoughts I'd say that's not too bad
We currently have 9 players in the top 500. Then of the 8 players "in running" ranked from 501 to 700, 6 have got some sort of a mention - Robbo, Katies Swan and Boulter, Anna, Mirabelle and Freya. The only 2 of the GB top 17 / top 700 players not mentioned are Fran and Laura D ( and I think that reasonable, but girls prove otherwise ).
And yes if recently or still injured players like Lisa, Sam and Eleanor ( and Eden ? - who was just beginning to blossom more ) then that's actually quite a goodly number of possible at least top 500 players.
That's 9 in the top 500 plus 6 of these 501 to 700 plus 4 others, making 19. One more for 20 in the top 500 Actually Jodie and Emily Arbutton were also mentioned by paulisi. There, that's 21, including my chucking in of Eden, 20 and a spare ! ( with apologies to any I missed there ).
Of course they won't all come together, especially with some relying on medical intervention, but then maybe one or two more of the unmentioned youngsters could really push on.
The cupboard's not that bare re potential top 500ers. The more important question and I think more difficult to get a feel for is who amongst them could be top 250, 200 or beyond.

Freya seems to me to be very hot and cold, but she's got alot of potential, not really produced at Junior level, but her game is suited to the adult game, and certainly top 200 is realistic.
Ms Dunne seems quite similar to Mr Edmund in the sense of winning when she ought to win (and sometimes more than she ought, by rankings, to win). Would be lovely to see her really move ahead.
Delighted that Katy seems to be turning her season around. She is a very talented player and hopefully someone at the LTA will realise and provide her with the funding to help her progress. I know she wants a travelling coach to work with her.
She plays the Latvian next, who has been having a torrid season until this week and has suddenly found some form.
