RE: Week 34 - ITF ($25K) - Woking, UK Hard

Great to see Katy finding some better form again recently, good win and be good if she can continue and get herself into the top 300, if not this week, soon. Provisionally jumps back ahead of Mandy to GB no 4.

And, of course, great for Freya, I was ready with some blurb about still good to have another challenging set of tennis with Indy. Think winning in two better ! The 9 points should take her into the top 700, up not far off 100 places ( GB no 17 ). A QF win ( so the 18 points ) and she'd be threatening to bypass the 700s and would be up to at least GB no 12 ( cutting through a group with just over 30 ranking point ).

Good to see Freya and Katy back on the winning trail. There are no seeds left in their half of the draw, so who knows. One more upset for each of the GB girls and we are guaranteed a finalist.......

Freya is one of the few GB girls outside the top 500 that has the potential to make a decent living from tennis. Katy should be ranked a lot higher, but has had a very disappointing season.

Various people (me included) have been saying for a while that Freya has very much an 'adult' tennis game, and that juniors is pretty irrelevant (not that she's done that badly there either).

Having been injured for two/three months this year too - especially sad as she had to miss Notts, and others - hasn't helped.

But, given she has played very few tournaments - only a stint out in Asia in spring and a few GB ones here and there, it's very exciting to see what the next year (and longer) will bring.

Definitely vis-a-vis Junior tennis. Never been a fan of it . Not that there is anything wrong with it. As said several times before, with Freya and those juniors who play "adult" tennis, it's just a matter of time.

Also with Ms De Vroome, you can't win a match with 18 double faults and only 2 aces, especially playing someone like Freya.

Yes, although Freya is threatening to cut a swathe through the GB rankings to the verge of the top 10, it is the bigger picture with her that much more excites.

The next year or so could be very interesting ...

Indeed. Looking forward to what lies ahead.

Fantastic couple of wins there; well done Katy and Freya :D
Pity Emily couldn't make it 3 out of 3 but that was a very decent effort too :)

Katy and Freya are both back on court again.

Katy is 3-0 down against the Italian.

Two brilliant wins! Well done! And good luck in the current round.

And CD, have you ever considered a career in political spin? though I'm not sure the world of politics could cope with your type of ironic revisionism - those who engage in the activity politically (and it is the few bad eggs that spoil things for the many decent ones) tend to prefer doing so straight-faced.

Straight up, I still think the schedule is wrong. And will do so - and would say so to whoever was interested (not many smile) - even if Freya or katy make the final.

But I appreciate the ideas on my career advancement - I'll amend the CV and send it out forthwith smile

Add: in the second singles of the day, play seems to have stopped with Katy losing 3-6 1-0

and Freya 3*-4 on serve

So in your opinion Paulisi, who else outside the top 500 might make a decent living from tennis? Always interested in hearing about who it is worth following more closely (of the less known girls.)

Can't say I am quite so optimistic, there is a young lady ranked 622 who is nailed on to make a decent living out of tennis.

The ones ranked 578 and 676 are also progressing quite nicely, never mind the one ranked 727. smile
