Coup Droit, I think the LTA were a bit unlucky here. A home 25K would generally be a good opportunity for a player ranked 300-400 to push themselves on and there are quite a few Britons in that bracket. But Carrerras, Cavaday, Webley-Smith and Moore all chose not to play for varying reasons, leaving just Dunne and Dart (I'm not sure when this tournament was finalised but they might have been thinking Katie Boulter would have been about this level as well). Had some or all of these players been available then I think it might not have looked so bad.
Only three British women through to the second round....
And only one of those actually beat a non-British player.....
Why has the LTA put on so many 25 and 50ks when we patently do not have the level to support them?
The 50Ks were put on for the grass court season by the AELTC funding. The remainder were scheduled presumably at the end of last year when we had quite a few players either in or approaching that category. Jo Konta and Naomi Broady might have benefitted at the time alongside, but the rest have either not progressed or been injured.

To be a bit fair, while I do think the balance and particularly lack of 10Ks is very questionable, we can hardly expect the LTA to be psychic about such as form and injury issues.
I think there was previously a very realistic expectation of having quite a number more very competitive GB 25K players.
As it is we are between losing some likely players and other good prospects still having a bit to go.

I'm not saying it's a hanging offence. And nobody has 20/20 hindsight.
But form is exactly what the LTA should be experts on. If they don;t know best how their players are playing and progressing, then it's a very sorry state.
The numbers for potential good 25 players was always skinny.
This event has cost them £50k (taking the rule of thumb, as confirmed by Cavaday's Egyptian tournament director).
It may possibly be worth it, if Freya or Katy go on an make the final (wouldn't that be great?), but with the state of GB women's tennis, the large number of high-ticket events and the lack of 10ks is daft, in my view.

I get your point CD but the LTA might be thinking differently, which is an easier way of fast tracking players through the rankings. Give certain players main draw wild cards and with a lucky draw (especially two Brits facing each other) and first round win with 5 points is guaranteed either way. Now, to get those 5 points in a 10K, they would have to make at least semi final in one tournament and second round in another - not a peace of cake. You asked and basically answered the question in your post i.e. 3 players into second round with only one taking out non-Brit .
