Well done to Mr Cannell and Mr Milton - very close from Mr Whitehouse, too.

I like the look of Joel Cannell - a decent few weeks in Egypt has given him his first couple of ranking points, and although I don't expect him to beat Josh, at 17 years old he seems to be performing with good consistency - with a record of 13-5 in Men's tennis this year, even though it's predominantly Futures Qs, it's still not to be sniffed at.

That time at the Justine Henin Academy seems to be paying off...

Slightly strange that Josh has gone out to Egypt just for one week?

He needs to make the semis in order to get any positive points.

Maybe a bit of sun? Appearance money ? or just why not ?

Just why not I say fairly good chance of 18 points easy to get to well run tournament and cheap as well. A warm up for the challengers he has in September after next weeks 15k at home

yeah, you may well be right. why not?

He's got 16 points coming off in September (although has some 2 point counters in hand to limit the damage).

I think it's also the first year that he's actually made a little bit of money (not net profit, almost certainly, but maybe just about breaking even, given what most players reckon on. Presumably that's given him a little (stress 'little') bit more cushion than normal to pursue his tournament path.

It also helps to get back up scorers for rankings, in case of illness, injury or lack of form.

Currently 4-4
