RE: Week 34 - ATP 250 - Winston-Salem Open, Winston-Salem, NC, USA (hard)

In other news at Winston-Salem, Aljaz's swift progress into R2 has been halted temporarily by the rain. He was about to serve up 6-2 *3-0 against Italian qualifier Cecchinato

Just for the record & on a brighter note:

L64:  Aljaz Bedene WR 58 defeated (Q) Marco Cecchinato (ITA) WR 102 by 2 & 2

*****

L32:  (1/WC) Gilles Simon (FRA) WR 11 (CH = 6 in January 2009) vs Aljaz Bedene WR 58

There isn't much value in 48 player 250 draws when you draw the top seed in R2 (10 points), but some good money and a chance at a quality player before the USO won't go amiss.

Aljaz putting a good fight of it, 5-4 up on serve but just failed to convert a set point.
C'mon lad

Aljaz is playing well and served for the first but got tight and made too many errors.

On we go at *5-5

Second set went the same way as the first but this time Aljaz takes the tie break 7-5

Picked up the second set after going 4-1 down in games, taking it on a tie break. A bit error prone perhaps, but certainly going for his shots and managing to stay with Simon, for two sets anyway. Quite impressive really. Pity he can't play Davis Cup.

Cheers, Gilles, another DF on BP and it's Aljaz to serve at *5-5, himself having saved 2 BPs / MPs at *3-5 15-40.

He needs to read Tim Gallwey's The Inner Game after that error!
