Yes, Phil, Laura has always displayed "bouncebackability", indicating that she is not really a "confidence" player, certainly not to the extent of many others. Her performances and results over the years have often seemed remarkably unlinked to her immediately previous one(s).

This was very much of the reason why I really doubted that her confidence would be adversely effected, added to her own awareness of the rebuilding process she is involved in. To me, there seemed stuff there to if anything push her on.

I suspect she is still redeveloping being better in tight match play situations, though serve issues as has been pointed out are not exactly new.

When he feels he has got Naomi's serve consistent maybe Fitzy could contact Laura ! Less of a weapon there, but still potentially a weapon rather than a liability if she could ever find consistency with it.

Or perhaps Greg would be ideal in the same kind of ad hoc arrangement he has with Heather. It's not like Laura really needs a complete overhaul after all as her serve is pretty decent when it's working. It's just tweaks to make it easier to be consistent so not really a full time commitment

Hmm, I can't help feeling that there's possibly rather less to Greg than meets the eye, including as some serve "expert".

Oh well, never mind. I guess it's on to USO prep. I'm hoping the old memories of what she has done there in the past will help her. I'm not expecting a good run this year, but with a kind draw I'd be happy for her to get to R2.

I really think what happens at the Mexican ITF tournaments post US open will be more of an indication where Laura's form is heading than what happens at the US open. Other than a very very kind draw it looks like she'll be cashing R1 loser's prize money, instead of any more.

R1: Jocelyn RAE/Anna SMITH (GBR/GBR) 166 lost to Raquel KOPS-JONES/Abigail SPEARS (USA/USA) [2] 31 1-6 4-6

Been a rough run, with some rotten draws.
