RE: Week 33 - British Tour Premier Event - Sutton

Yes, the timing on the post doesn't make it clear that my sigh was not that Mr Bloomfield lost here (at that point, he was still in the running) but rather that I think anyone who can do as well as he does under the circumstances could have done so much more, if only. he'd not been so plagued with injuries.

In terms of how people do in this kind of tournament, I can see the logic for hoping that those who are still on the Tour win ... though, that said, we don't know what excellent tennis projects others might wish the money for.

Jathan Malik turned over Joe S as the surprise semi result:

Marcus Willis def. james Marsalek 6-3 6-3

Jathan Malik def. Joe S. 1-6 6-3 6-4

In the men's doubles:

Final:

James Marsalek/Marcus Willis v Oliver and Marcus Gan

Marcus Willis and Lucy Brown are also in the mixed doubles final (opponents to be decided)

Upset at Sutton:

Final:

Jathan Malik def. Marcus Willis 6-3 7-6(3)

(Is Jathan allowed to keep his prize money? Is there a new 10k ceiling - seem to remember someone saying - or just expenses?)

Marcus then withdrew from the men's doubles, leaving the Gans to take the title.

But he then played, with Lucy Brown, in the mixed doubles, so presumably not injured. And won, beating Joe Salisbury and Katy Dunne.
