Not a great start with 5 double faults in her first service game and Helen is down *0-3

Helen recovers from 1-5 to get it back to 5-5. Total points won 34 each despite Helen's 11 dfs to her opponents 0.

Helen managed to win the 1st set 7-6(5) and is now *2-2 in the 2nd.
Helen's DF tally continues to grow, now 21.

Helen has reigned in the double faults (now 22) but strangely it has had no impact at all on the momentum of the match. Currently 7-6 4-5*

We are into a third set and given Helen's issues that is probably not going to help.

Helen a game away at 5-3 final set, but seriously running out of time if she wants to match Anna Kournikova's famous 31 double faults.

Helen wins 7-6(5) 4-6 6-3 biggrin

2/3 of the way towards a world ranking.

Impressive that she did seem to reign in the DFs during the match, though yes there was a lot to reign in.

Not clear at what rate this was occurring given that there appear to be some rogue figures floating around. bet365 had her on 18 DFs some considerable time after the mention of 21 at 2-2 in the second set ( which had seemed an inordinate leap forward ).

Helen was 0-40 down at *3-5 in the second, so when she held that game I thought she might end up taking it in 2. Great job to dig in and take the third

That was quite a rollercoaster win

"Sources close to" the culprit wink tell me that she tried her best to get the record (*) but after careful consideration, decided winning was more important. smile

Apparently her opponent was so annoyed at being pegged back from 5-0 to 5-5 in the 1st that she picked up a code violation biggrin

(*) it's not really an official record!

Helen's opponent may be quite a challenge. She knocked out the 8th seed and either her opponent had a massive choke or the 15 year old is one of those players who is not beaten until she is beaten. Having won the 1st set easily she got into a tie break in the 2nd facing 5 set points at 1-6. She took the match by winning 7 points in a row.
