RE: Week 33 - Challenger ($100,000) - Vancouver - Hard

Funny how a simple backhand slice can bedevil an opponent.

Great result for Dan, taking out Q2 Bourgue (regardless of the Frenchman's lack of results on hard)
Here's hoping Dan gets the QvQ slot that doesn't look set to play Kedders in round 2

Has Kyle pulled out?

Slot where he was, on ATP live score app now has qualifier where his name was.

He's still listed on the draw sheet on the ATP website, but I wouldn't be surprised if he did decide to take a week off in prep for the US open qualifiers.

In which case I take it back Jaggy, really does look a good shot at reaching the quarters for Evo, wherever he lands in the draw.

If Kyle has pulled out, which i thought he might do after his run to the semi final last week. Then The Qualifying spaces in that section would be best as no seeds till the 1/4 finals.

All gone a bit pear-shaped for Liam who lost the next 4 games.

Now serving at 4-6 *0-2

Two players looking on different trajectories at the moment.

Be interesting to see which ends the year higher in the rankings with Evo already not that far behind Liam in the "race" ( now 121 points to 103 ).

One needs to continue to build again, the other to refind their second half of last year form of which there have been far too few glimpses this year.

Good result!   I make Dan the favourite to get the W today as well.  Mathias Bourgue seldom comes off the dirt and his results haven't been great when he has ventured onto any other surface.  I'm hoping this is going to be a big week for Dan!  I'm looking forward to watching.

A little while after Dan plays, it'll be Liam's turn.  He faces Karen Khachanov.  Surely Liam won't have too much trouble beating a girl??!!

Karen is only 19 and a 6 foot 6 giant.

 That's big for a girl, isn't it??!!

I'm really pleased Dan got an easy win, slightly annoyed I wasn't able to watch.

Dan is 3rd up after 10.00am local.  I think he has perhaps the worst draw imaginable: Radek Stepanek!   But if Dan wants to break into the top 100, this is the type of match he is going to need to win....

Actually, for Mr Evans, I suspect Mr Stepanek may - in a funny sense - be the best draw possible. Enough of a "name" to inspire him to do his best and make this feel like a big stage - but not a player at his peak.
