RE: Week 33 - Challenger ($100,000) - Vancouver - Hard

Holds again. 2-4*

It's a shame he completely lost the plot in the middle of this match.

Yeah that period has given him a mountain to climb now. *2-5

Smith playing so much better now, really finding that first serve.

Now or never for Evo. *2-5

holds to 15. 4/5 first serves and Evo is out.

Pretty disappointing.

A shame, but a better week than most of us expected. Great to see him back playing Challengers.

Shame the run couldn't continue today, definitely had a shout in that match
Still, great week for Dan, onwards and upwards - still clearly competitive at this level

Overall a good week. A bit of composure when calls didn't go Dan's way have cost him imo. But overall a great week that shows he is back. I await with interest where he turns up next!!

Don't think I have ever seen a more biased umpiring performance.

Absolutely got the feeling that Mike C shared your viewpoint but as commentator he had to bite his tongue. So many overrules and I don't think a single one went in Dan's favour.  However, I still think Evo lost because his serve had a "trainwreck" 45 mins in the middle of the match.  Fatigue may well have played a part after 7 matches in 8 days, some of which were both physically and mentally draining.

But if one thing has come out of this week for me, it is this.  Dan Evans is back.

Pity.

But lots of positives to take from the week for Dan and some lessons.

Disappointing, but over all a good, encouraging week for Dan.
Hope he can keep this up!

Tough to come all the way through qualies and the main draw, but a great week nonetheless for Evo.

 Why so?

Always a little twinge of disappointment when a player loses a match he looks capable of winning
However, a really good performance to come through qualifying, beating a number of players who are in fairly good nick at the moment
The run here should see Evo up to well inside the Top 250 in the race (220-230 - I've been burnt by giving specific (and inaccurate) positions before!) which gives him a great foundation to build on. Onwards and upwards.

Fabulous week for Dan, very enjoyable to follow and little to be critical about in the round.

The third set performance to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat against Daniel Taro has to be one of the best shows of mental strength by Evo in his career, perhaps even any British player in 2016.

To win though qualification and then run deep into a challenger will inevitably mean fatigue will impact at the business end of the week. Hopefully he won't have to do that for much longer and if he can maintain that mental toughness, stay healthy and control the parts of the game he can control he has the all round game to get back to and then better his 2013 level. I am looking forward to watching it.

Certainly that comeback against Daniel Taro ( sic ) was something else and I've truly not seen better from anyone in 2016.

Evo, a man ahead of his time
