Allez ( or A...laa.aaay as they say in Erdington) very good win for Dan!
I know some question the go to challenger, directly to challenger do not pass go (ITF) approach, but this is Dans level and he was more than competitive in Wimbledon qualifying, indeed the only British player with even a remote chance of making it through. Admittedly being pre US Open this is a very heavily stacked week so perhaps this week he will be sticking to his mantra... Here for a good time not a long time, but the longer the better!
Not too worried about Kyle not making it through to the weekend this week, loosing in the QFs after a few tough games would give him a bit of time to get back to the east coast and fine tune for US Open qualifying (can't bring myself to calling it open qualifying bit of a golf thing)
I absolutely agree with Dan playing Challangers. Playing more futures will leave him with a futures mindset, futures points and futures money, futures hotels and paradoxically, no future in pro tennis. Whatever route he takes, he is going to have to win matches. I don't disagree that he needs some big weeks where he makes it through qualies without breaking too much of a sweat and beats some highly ranked players in the main draw. If his body is injury free and he is happy about his level in practice, I am sure it is the correct choice for Dan. I don't suppose his match might be streamed? Aptos qualies weren't....Anyway, good luck mate!
Playing a string of futures in say Egypt may work for some, may indeed be best for some ( and well played Alex ), but as I surmised when this was first suggested for Dan, I just couldn't see him having the mindset for that.
So he is as well doing what he's doing with the potential advantages ( or lack of disadvantages ) that folk have pointed to.
Hope it works and the guy begins to fulfill his talent again.

Dan now serving for the first set *5-3 - keep it up, Dan, sorry but I'm off to bed now. I'm exhausted after watching Andy and I have to get up early tomorrow.
Good result! I make Dan the favourite to get the W today as well. Mathias Bourgue seldom comes off the dirt and his results haven't been great when he has ventured onto any other surface. I'm hoping this is going to be a big week for Dan! I'm looking forward to watching.
A little while after Dan plays, it'll be Liam's turn. He faces Karen Khachanov. Surely Liam won't have too much trouble beating a girl??!!
