QF: (Q) Dan Evans WR 417 vs Brydan Klein WR 182
I note that it was the Russian "big girl's blouse" (Karen Khachanov) who despatched the Milkman in three (7-6(6) 4-6 7-6(4)) to remove the last of the seeds.
I was on a double shift at work so had to ignore this thread and watch on the livestream/atp when I got home just now.
WOW!!!
Then again I guess the match always had Daniel Evans written all over it :)
I know everyone else wants to be cautious and all but I'm gonna stick my neck out and say that I think Evans will crack the top hundred in time to make the US Open main draw next year.
I think it was always the type of match that was easier to make such a come back in because neither player was dominant on serve so it just takes that slight all round raise of you game to go from loosing most games to winning them but still it is a pretty great result by Dan.
Think I might watch a bit of Brydan's match now - I forgot to do so before reading this thread - which really looks like a real shame now!
I am assuming I will at last get to see an Evo match with Mike Cation commentary in the quarters which I had been hoping to see for a while.
Anyone who is predicting Evo to make the top 100 within x years needs their head examining.
Whilst I am as pleased as anyone about his current good run, the number of times he's had a productive few months before spectacularly imploding have been too many to count. Based on previous form, the odds are surely stacked against him having a consistent enough run of tournaments to make it.
Clearly I would be absolutely delighted to be proven wrong.
Had to go to bed last night just as Evo served for the 2nd set. Probably for the best really as I'm not sure my fragile heart could've survived watching a come-back from 5-0 down, not to mention saving MPs and coming through 8-6 in a breaker.
Fantastic results for both of our lads last night, and I can't decide whether I'm annoyed that one of them will definitely go out in the QFs, or pleased that we're guaranteed at least one of them through. Whilst I'd love to say I'm not biased, I will be cheering Dan on in the quarters. Brydan is continuing to showcase his improvement and I wish him nothing but the best as he rises up the rankings, but for now, I want to see Evo get some big points on the board and get back up to a level where he doesn't need to mess around in qualifying for challengers.
That said, can't wait to see the match tomorrow, may the best man win :)
