RE: Week 32 - ITF ($25K) - Landisville, USA Hard

That should be Naomi up to close to WR 170 on Monday week with virtually nothing to defend for the rest of the year.

So, should continue to go UP.

50 points this week after 48 last week is a great boost to her ranking - and stringing really god weeks together should mean she is full of confidence.

Great to see Naomi on the up again after struggling a bit.

Hoping for some good results at the US open now.

I think it's a good point about focusing on her serving. A lot of people go to the thing that is their weakest area and try to improve that - actualy you're better off finding your strongest area and improving on that, to make it into something outstanding. Naomi's serving has been absolutely that the last few weeks, with the odds couple of games here or there letting her down - but overall serving stats have been brilliant.

If you win every single service game and then push hard on your serve in any tiebreakers that occur, you literally cannot lose a match. It's how people like John Isner get to where they are - he has hardly anything else going for him.

I'm not suggesting Naomi will get to top 20. Not a chance. But it is a big enough weapon to see her in the top 100 no doubt (a little bit like Amanmuradova who made the top 100 a few years back with little else than a big serve).

F: Naomi BROADY (GBR) 194 defeated (Q) Robin ANDERSON (USA) 536 4-6 6-4 7-6(5)

Naomi's 8th career pro singles title, fourth at $25K or above, and sixth on outdoor hard.

Very well done!

Edit: miscounted $25K+ titles

Lovely. Great to see Ms Broady string wins together against decent opponents.

As I suggested, making that serve consistently good is huge and the last two weeks have shown what can already be achieved with that.

But I would certainly foresee any reasonably long term coaching arrangement moving on to other areas, while importantly keeping on top of the serve.

I do see the analogy with John Isner and others, but it would be good to avoid any 70-68 final sets at any tournament without tiebreak final sets

That bit probably my fault again two posts ago.

Anyway I hate watching big servers in the men's game but love it in the women's oddly enough. Not sure why I think in the women's game there is still more skill involved in serve perhaps, love watching Serena, Lisicki and Naomi. She probably only needs to work on positioning more than anything then the actual shots themselves would be fixed to a certain extent enough to make a difference. If she can get top 100 and get some more things sorted she can be up with Heather as a 50ranked player. I'm amazed she doesn't end up injured more they way she angles herself, as she gets older that may be a problem.

I can't see Heather going much higher in the rankings than where she peaked.

Oh I totally see Heather going higher. She's still young - the number of points between No.62 and even No.32 is not more than a couple of good tournaments, which we can often see she has in her. She could vulture her way to top 40 if she was smarter with her scheduling in my opinion. She plays lots of the very biggest tournaments, and not enough Internationals.

Most women are peaking in their late 20s or even early 30s now (and men for that matter). She's got years yet before we write her off as having reached her peak! She's got more raw talent than either Anne K or Elena B and both of them could easily have made top 40 without their injury problems setting them back often when they were at their very highest rankings.

Unless of course you're Edberg playing Stich at Wimbledon in 91....
