Well done Emily Appleton - another foreigner dispatched and another with her first counter. We should put on more of these 10ks...............

Not saying I'd disagree about it as any sort of policy though I kinda wonder, ( and it's not the LTA / organisers' fault that the ranking system offers such freebies ), but in general, paulisi, do you think WCs should be given out to get players on / back on the ranking list ?

It would indeed have that effect for Emily ( Arbuthnott - too many Emily's ) and again I wouldn't necessarily disagree with a WC, irrespective of rankings, with her win today and maybe more to come.

Just seen Cav has withdrawn from Woking.

I expect wildcards will be given out to the best performing GB girls at Chiswick, given only Katy and possibly Harriet will make main draw. Emily Arbuthnott may be given one to get her back on the ranking list.

Not surprised she has withdrawn. Must be something wrong with her somewhere

Maybe, but when you enquired about any injury issue earlier, The Optimist who was / is there said "Didn't look to be injured, moving and hitting the ball well, but so was Helen".

And Helen's potential has sadly been hugely untapped over recent years.

Certainly Cav's general form has been an issue, maybe at times effected by injury ( I have something in the back of my mind from a month or two ago ).

OK. Thanks Indy. Missed The Optimist's post.

Really pleased for Emily Arbuthnott - loved her bounce and athleticism when she played at the Bank of England club - a bit of Hev about her - it's easy to love the Freyas and jodies of the world but we need some Emily Arbs too...

Very pleasantly surprised that Emily Appleton won (although no idea about her opponent). Wouldn't have guessed it. Nice to see the wildcard being repaid....

I'm not sure that we need any more Emily A's in the world, OK as British Tennis players, potentially in same tournaments

I've already edited a post today to add "Arbuthnott" to save any confusion.

I know you like battlers/grinders/sluggers/"give everything backers" .  Haven't seen Ms Arbuthnott play.

I love the big hitters too, honest !!!

I'm a mega Freya fan - and Jodie too.

But, yes, I've got a lot of respect for the grinders, especially those who you can see have really worked hard in the gym and out on the track. Great to see those little legs scooting around the court, every which way, never giving up....

The only ones I've really no time for are those who are not that fit, and think they're talented big hitters (but aren't really, in the grand scale of things), who stand there taking big swipes at the ball, which never goes in because they're not in position, and then look disgusted, as though it was their racquets' fault,  or the fates conspiring against them..... (and that applies to men/boys too).

Freya beats Jazzamay 6-1 6-3.

92% first serve points won rather helped not being broken.

CD's girls doing well
