RE: Week 32 - ITF ($10K) - Chiswick, UK Hard

Helen wins 6-2 6-1 bookies got that all wrong. I have the odd bet at this level and Helen was 2-1 for the 2ns set starting turned out to be worth the wee fiver In the end.

Great for Helen to get her first main draw win since her return, and a result she had been threatening - it helped that she didn't have to play through qualies here.

Well done to Jodie - who served it out to win 7-5 in the third.

I first saw Jodie winning the Liverpool grade 5 event 2 years ago at 14 and thought she was a superb talent. I saw her again at Ilkley this year and she pushed a girl just outside the top 100 very close, winning a set.
I'm thoroughly of the belief that anyone who remains in the 700-1100 ranking for a while is a similar ability to the better juniors and hence why I thought Jodie would beat Laura or at least push her very close.

Jodie now plays Ellie -Rose and i'd expect Jodie to progress again.

PS ITF have Mollie Crouch beating Lucy, but live scores have it the other way round. I would suggest Lucy won and someone has typed in the results incorrectly.

I am jumping on the Jodie bandwagon. CD mentioned her a while back. Well done Jodie and keep it up.

Great for Helen. As said it had been threatened. Pity it was against Cav rather than a peskie.

Emily Arbuthnott is about to fall off the WTA rankings unless she picks up some points this week.

Jodie needs to get to the semi final to get a ranking although her big scorer will go in the next few weeks.

Nice to see more names picking up ranking points(no counters) - Georgina, Helen P, Ellie-Rose so far

Yes, Emily will fall out the rankings on Monday, hopefully only temporily, and Charlotte Pearce ( not seen her about for a while ? ) the following Monday.

Without any additions there would then be 28 GB ranked players.

Anyone knows if Naomi has slight injury issues?

Didn't look to be injured, moving and hitting the ball well, but, so was Helen!

Charlotte P has been injured again for some while - seems to have a relatively fragile body.

Beth Askew and Katy Dunne are about to win comfortably.

Jasmine's match has dropped off live scores

Olivia looks like going down in three.

Naomi Cavaday's run of poor form continues as she has lost the first set to Helen Parish 6-2 (to be fair Helen has been in very good form recently, if she can manage her condition)
Georgina Axon is a set up and running away with set 2
Olivia Nicholls is struggling, but not unexpectedly against the useful Japanese player, who is based in the UK.

Georgie/Nell an odd sort of match.  No real power shots from either player but lots of angles, dropshots, lobs, volleys - sort of trying to outwit each other.  Georgie having more success than Nell.

Olivia / Lily good match despite scoreline.  Battle between US and UK universities! Lily being at Oklahoma and Olivia being at Loughborough.

Talking about rankings who is Emma Hurst and how did she get one.

Emma is 19 and picked up a point winning a qualifying match at Surbiton 50K and Eastbourne 50K and came through qualifying at Barnstaple 25K.

Otherwise I know nothing of her and very rarely see her in many draws.

See the Seaton Tennis Club website for a short article about her
