Checking Wikipedia, it is apparently her choice to be now declared Russian as from last year. I am sure Russia didn't have a problem with that !

I'd say it would have been rather controversial for the ITF ( and WTA ) to have unilaterally declared her Russian.

Thanks for this, sorry yes I assumed that she had chosen to represent Russia rather than it being forced upon her, considering Yalta (where she was born) is not internationally recognised as being part of Russia (???)
