Ah well, pity, but it looked a tricky assignment where Evo is just now. I do hope it picks up for him over there, but it is likely to be real challenge

disbelief ?  -  confuse

Shame there's no points for winning the first round but pleased to see the effort to head out there and try qualifying
Wonder what's up next for Mr Evans...

Should've went to Sharm and got ranking into top 300 in my opinion. Will be hard not being seeded in qualifying at challenger level.

Jeez, life on the Challenger circuit, the phenomenal expense and wear-&-tear of a trip to CALIFORNIA - for nothing! I count my blessings of being a wage-slave ...

In the doubles:

R1:  Guilherme Clezar (BRA) & Brydan Klein CR 422 (271+151) vs Sekou Bangoura (USA) & Liam Broady CR 510 (201+309)

The winners play the top seeds, the Gooch & Artem Sitak... hmm

It sounds fantastic and indeed there is a relatively attractive run of west coast challengers over the next couple of months Vancouver, Tiburon and Sacramento. If things don't go well, and Dan has chosen a higher risk strategy than sticking to futures being a wage slave has its advantages. That in itself is a choice ; not to chase ones aspirations.

Fancied Dan's chances against Nguyen but not to be.

Agree. Re the French guy I mentioned a while back who retired at age 25, due to a loss of confidence following a nasty run of injuries / bad luck / lack of results, his only regret was not having tried Challengers more often - always chasing a few points here and there in futures, always thinking he needed those points to give him a better base, always putting challengers off till next month when his ranking was hopefully 50 places higher - and then realising that it was too late and he'd never really allowed himself a shot at making it.

Good luck Dan - as Dan's twitter account tagline says : Here for a good time, not a long time . . ..

And in the qualifying doubles:

QR1:  (q1) Ruben Gonzales (PHI) & Darren Walsh CR 376 (210+166) defeated Alex Kuznetsov & Mischa Zverev (USA/GER) CR 738 (401+337) by 3 & 5

*****

FQR:  (q1) Ruben Gonzales (PHI) & Darren Walsh CR 376 (210+166) vs (q2) Marius Copil & Andrey Rublev (ROU/RUS) CR 412 (207+205)

Image result for fingers crossed emojifor a third Brit in the main draw.    If they make it, they'll play a pair of local WCs, Andre Dome & John Paul Fruttero (UNR because JPF is "inactive" - he last played in this very event three years ago & is currently unranked, though he has a CH of 83 from May 2012) in the first round.

L32:  Guido Andreozzi (ARG) WR 198 defeated Brydan Klein WR 172 by 4 & 4  cry

And it didn't get any better in the doubles qualies:

FQR:  (q2) Marius Copil & Andrey Rublev (ROU/RUS) CR 412 (207+205) defeated (q1) Ruben Gonzales (PHI) & Darren Walsh CR 376 (210+166) by 6-3 7-6(5)  cry
