RE: Week 31 - ITF ($10K) - Bursa, Turkey Hard

But have you looked at Saray's statistics?

And how many times have you seen Mirabelle play?

I'm not saying you're wrong, just that Saray's statistics and background are just as important as Mirabelle's, so you can't just say you're 'going on performance statistics' if you're only looking at one side on them.

And, having seen Mirabelle a couple of times (although not at all this year, it's true), I'm not 100% convinced about the 'big' game or the inconsistency within a match. One GB coach told me that playing Mirabelle was very hard because she was a very 'tricky' player (his word) i.e. not majorly aggressive as such (and a lot of girls have a very aggressive game - make or break - it's the basic way all European coaches teach) but aggressive when you don't expect it and mixing it up - on the livestream last year, she was still a player who would suddenly rush the net, for instance, almost to catch you out, more than being aggressive, and then would play more standard rally balls from the back. (I think that basically she enjoys her tennis, which is great to see).

I get your points CD. I indeed looked at Saray's statistics and in fact all the opponents of those I follow closely play. That's what I do when assessing a player's level - since I haven't seen majority play including Mirabelle. I don't just look only at the  result but most importantly the results pattern, signs of progression, fluctuations, who they play and their stats as well, etc.

Couple of points

- To me, being aggressive is not only just about bashing the ball from the back of the net - rushing the net is part and parcel of aggressive play to me. Not many players have the courage to do that .

- Unpredictability is also excellent if she is - not interested in robots .

- The feedback I got from someone I know who was in Barnstaple recently said she was aggressive/offensive, which confirms most of what you just mentioned except the  standard rallies from the back. He said she sticks to the baseline and hardly moved back and was always looking to go forward at the slightest opportunity. My type of player, hence the interest.

 - On the mixing up part - I can sense the French coaching influence on tactics

I think we're pretty much singing from the same song sheet, Tennislover

As said, I've been a Mirabelle fan for several years now - without knowing her personally but just on the basis that she's doing things a bit differently and wasn't (until recently) at all in the public eye and no one knew about her. And, yes, I love the mix it up style too, although I doubt it is really thanks to the French coaches, they tend (in general) to favour the 'classic' aggressive style.

But Mirabelle and partner lose their final today, 6-1 6-1

However, a little bit of silverware is always nice - well done to them !

Another good week at the office for Mirabelle. 2 singles pts (new CH) and 7 doubles pts (new CH) and a first ITF final. smile

2 more 10ks to go in Turkey and then she seems to be taking a well earned rest - can't see her anywhere on the 24th. She has been back to back for some time now so probably needs a break.

From UNR to <700 in 8 months is good going and a few impressive scalps along the way  - whatever her gameplan is it seems to be working - stick at it biggrin
