I'm suprised to see Dan Evans travelling to Egypt for a 10k event. It seems a retrograde step having won 13 of 14 matches at 15k level, and also because Dan has made his dislike of small events known. It seems all the stranger because Segovia and Portoroz Challengers would have been easy to travel to. Winning in Egypt won't improve his ranking much, and losing early will damage his confidence. Anyway, I'm sure he's given it careful consideration, he has to do what works for him. I wonder what his plans are for September - to the States or maybe to Turkey where there are three consecutive weeks of challengers - this would surely be a cheap option. Anyway, I'm sure we;ll find out soon enough.
I think he'd rather win 2 matches and get 2 points than none at this stage although that is just me speculating. I can't imagine he'd want to go to Chally Qualies either so why not just play and win a few more futures events (which he should do) to get his ranking to a position where he is a DA for the smaller Challengers?
Just my two pence, I don't think it's strange scheduling at all.
I think with Dan and challenger qualies it might be the case of Fitness. When we had the 3 challenger events in England he got beaten twice in the 2nd round which was also2nd game that day maybe he feels he isn't fit enough for 2 games in a day? I'd agree about a shame he's playing 10ks and not 15's although I assume when you play Sharm you budget quite easily for it as you know the costs of going there.
I'm rather surprised to see Dan in Egypt for a 10K, but that's more to with it being Dan ( I have previously said, when it was suggested, that I couldn't think of anyone less likely to go for a run of 10Ks in Sharm ).
This may be a one off, though in fact in theory I think a run at Sharm ( if he could bear it ) or 10Ks in general ( if maybe preferably the less available 15Ks ) would be no bad thing.
If he plays and wins lots of matches, as he should, that's of some use, and actually title wins even at this level would be pretty helpful in the rankings, given his current WR 413 level. Looking at the current rankings, a 10K title would move him up about 40 places in the rankings, three such titles over 100 places.
So while I'm a bit surprised, I don't think it's a bad strategy to play 10Ks, although a burst of a few, as with the 15Ks in GB and Ireland recently, would make more sense to me.

I would assume it a couple of weeks at a resort palying tennis....fairly enjoying yourself whilst hopefully get some wins....maybe a title....sharpen your game etc.
Then back to UK for back to back 15k's. A couple of weeks after that (hopefully with a few more ranking points earnt) a much larger quantity of challengers start.

It all seems reasonable enough to me!
Yes. It may well be that his girlfriend fancies a bit of sun and summer holiday. And no harm in that at all. There's a lot of factors to take into account .....
Tables updated - Vancouver 100K is loaded that Naomi Broady is nowhere near even making qualifying. Very sparse entry lists due to German league and poor LTA scheduling
Could Evo turn up at vancouver and sign in? Bit late for Aptos, although much worse places to be. Obviously knowing Dans love of Geography and travel he is using the term America as in continent. The U.S. makes some sense given his success there in 2013, it must hold some decent memories.
