Lukey, Lukey, that is NOT good....

QR1: (q1) Luke Bambridge (GBR) WR 678 lost to (wc) GOLDIN, Grayson M. (USA) UNR 6-4 6-4

QR1: (wc) Thomas Rees (GBR) UNR lost to MARTIN DE OLIVA CARR, Jose Maria (ESP) UNR age 18 6-3 6-4

QR1: (q5) Scott Clayton (GBR) WR 923 lost to STEIN, Will E. (USA) UNR 7-6(2) 6-7(5) 6-3

Scott has his doubles final this morning in Edwardsville, so there must have been a bit of shuttling around Illinois yesterday to try and make all the matches in all the places - guess he can take his time to wend his way back now there, now, though, as he's no also second match to play ..... :(

Well, after the disastrous qualies, it's now onto the main draw . .

R1: Farris Gosea (GBR) WR 625 v Harry Bourchier (AUS) WR 557, age 19, Junior WR 24 two years ago,

R1: Richard Gabb (GBR) WR 650 v (LL) Quentin Monaghan (USA) WR 1861

Scott and Richard together, as normal, in the doubles. And Luke playing with Farris.

Doubles draws not as good as they may look; Schneider is UNR because at university, where he has been quite handy on a good team. Think Fawcett may also be a university player. That said, Mr Bambridge and Mr Gosea could be a really good combination.

Don't know if that was Luke or Farris (both are a bit prone to it) but they were bombing along nicely, winning, and then suddenly it all went pear-shaped and they lost 10-1 in the MTB.

Well done in the singles. In the doubles, well, summer futures in the US are a bit of a minefield. Bushamuka, again, is better than his ranking ... so that's a better pair than it looks. On the other hand, Clayton and Gabb are a more established pair, which helps.

Scott and Rich lost their doubles QF.

A true washout of a competition so far.

Three first round losses in qualifying (despite being 1st and 5th seeds)

A first round loss for Farris.

Both doubles teams out before the semis.

Come on, Richard - it's all down to you......

Aha. Hadn't checked the scores .... oops.

It's very, very difficult with these summer US futures. The best university students are all out playing, and some of them are very good indeed ... the equivalents of Ed Corrie and Lloyd Glasspool (or even better) ... who are really likely be Challengers or even Tour, not Futures, players. They may not always get the results every week, but they are more than capable of causing 'upsets'.

For the record:

L32:  Richard Gabb (GBR) WR 650 defeated (LL) Quentin Monaghan (USA) WR 1861 by 4 & 2

*****

L16:  (6/WC) Marcos Giron (USA) WR 398 (CH = 368 last December) (*) vs Richard Gabb WR 650

(*) Giron is 22, a year younger than Richard, but looks about 16 in his photo on the ITF site!

Excellent win by Richard Gabb, taking out the 6th seed 6-3 7-5

Get a qualifier in the quarters, as the qualifier (Cotrone) - presumably a college player - beat the second seed in a third set tie-break.
