Week 30 - ATP 500 - bet-at-home Open - German Tennis Championships, Hamburg (clay)

L32:  Aljaz Bedene WR 70 (= CH) vs Daniel Gimeno-Traver  (ESP) WR 69 (CH = 48 2013)

Probably as good as could be expected and a great chance to make a run here considering Bautista-Agut would be the probable opponent in the next round and Aljaz beat him in the 250 at Chennai earlier this year.

Very good

Aljaz only has 69 points ( a total from 4 counters ) to defend during the rest of the year and started the week at no 44 in the race.

That's 45 points well earned from a R1 win here.

A really good next few months and he could maybe even be seeded for the Australian Open.

^^ Here's hoping!

When I looked at the start of play it said match suspended, presumably rain, so I went and did some chores - then came back to find it all done and dusted. Well done, our new Brit, keep it up.

Being British seems to agree with Mr Bedene! Actually, jesting aside, having the issue of citizenship/playing nationality (largely) resolved must be a positive.

RBA is probably one of the most consistent top 30 players on the tour, outclassed against the top 10ers, but very reliable against anybody lower ranked than himself, despatched Coric comfortably today, who had beaten Aljaz last week, so a huge ask for our man next, but well done on winning impressively today.

Would be nice to get into the QF, but a tought game tomorrow; RBA seemingly taken out Coric quite easily

Just hope Aljaz can duplicate his performance against RBA from the Chennai semi final. I seem to recall hearing that they are quite good friends and have practiced together a lot so maybe Aljaz will have a gameplan that works. If he can get to the QF he is most likely to run into Fognini and although I think it is fair to say Fabio is the greater talent it is also pretty fair to say that he underperforms on a pretty regular basis.

I think Bautista is a bit more reliable on the red stuff than he is the hard, so probably not directly comparable.
