Helen should qualify here as she will play one of two young Latvians in q2, both of whom are outside the junior top 1000

Given her terrible draw last week she needs some luck smile

Helen won 3&0, and draws WR1091 Ksenia Dmitrieva, a much better draw than her previous $10ks

That's Helen's first WTA point of any kind since late 2009, so something of a milestone in her comeback. Her last singles point (gained in Sunderland in November 2009) came from a 1 & 0 thrashing of an Estonian player who went on to make the top 700 the following year, so hopefully being in Estonia now makes that a good omen for tomorrow ...

Hurrah for Ms Parish! That's very good news - a victory with a lot of perseverance behind it.

Thanks, Peter. I'm far from properly 'back' yet but around a bit more.

Helen has just tweeted: "As low-energy days go, this one is pretty dire 😩 Time to go back to bed before attempting some doubles!"

Just what she didn't need having finally got what looked like a decent R1 draw. It looks like Helen won the first 5 points of the match (breaking in the first game) before it started going wrong. The killer stat is that she only won 5 points on serve, despite getting her df count down into single figures. In fact, they both had the same number of bps (7), suggesting that a few the Russian's service games may have been quite competitive but Dmitrieva won 6 of her bps to Helen's 1.
