Davis Cup 2015 - World Group Semi-Final - 18th-20th September

Andy playing doubles is not ideal ( remember how knackered he was at Queens ), but if he comes out of the US Open physically OK ( well after some recuperation ) at the moment I still see him playing doubles maximising our chances of two wins from rubbers 3 & 4 ( doubles and 1 vs 1 ).

I don't see him playing doubles if it goes 2-0, even if we have selected only one doubles specialist.

Talking of doubles, any mention of the Aussies considering their very clearly number one ranked doubles player ? He seems OK, bit too quiet maybe

I am so torn about whether or not I can get over for this. I know tickets will sell out very quickly this week and my problem is that I won't know until the last minute whether or not I will even be in Europe. Currently I am due to fly back to Spain from Brazil on 1st September but we have a client looking to come out here in the next couple of weeks so I may have to delay my return. No dates have been confirmed yet.

If I am in Spain for the right dates, I have managed to find some decent flights, although they are not cheap these days. I can fly into Prestwick from Alicante arriving Weds evening and flying back on the Monday. That part is doable. But then the next problem is accommodation. There doesn't seem to be anything for less that about 100 quid per night. I did find one B&B for about 50 pounds per night but that is 30 mins outside Glasgow which would mean hiring a car.

Does anyone have any advice on accommodation in the area. Any info or ideas would be appreciated.

May sound obvious, but check out the train lines going out of Glasgow, and accommodation around each station. Edinburgh is only 45 mins away by train too.

Thanks Helen. I have looked at that type of option but I am also very conscious of the comments last time the Emirates was used and the consensus seemed to be that public transport wasn't very reliable. The Emirates Arena site also suggests that the nearest train station (Dalmarnock) doesn't open on a Sunday.

I think many of those complaining about the transport don't have the greatest mobility and it was wet so hanging around wasn't pleasant. However, we stayed in the centre in an apartment and it took us about 30 mins to walk back. For a fit man like you that is no problem and also good to do after so many hours sitting down.

Have you tried Airbnb?

Would think you could easily resell your tickets if you can't go. Unfortunately I am on holiday this time so disappointed to miss this tie as Glasgow was brilliant.

Ah, Paisley, Glasgow's salubrious little neighbour  I can imagine it being rather / a lot cheaper.

I'm allowed to say such things, being a Paisley buddie at heart.

I often stayed at The Sandyford Hotel in the western end of Sauchihall Street. It is directly opposite the much fancier Kelvin Park Lorne Hotel. The Sandyford was clean, quiet and unpretentious, though it is a long while since I've been there.  And they have availability! for the DC!    There are loads of small hotels in that area - try using  Laterooms.com  I've had some fantastic deals from Laterooms!

Leon could have some problems with team selection - Ward's form at the moment seems abysmal.

Ward is unselectable, so second pick is really key.
Sad Bedene can't play (does anyone know when the appeal will be heard), Kyle seems to be struggling too.
Is throwing Evo in such a daft idea? Man in form and has done well under pressure (Croatia, Russia)
Leon's done it before.

I disagree. 1 Challenger win and 1 semi looks pretty reasonable form to me

Surely the obvious pick at the moment, unless Ward throws a curveball at the US Open

Sorry I meant physically with the recent withdrawal; I'm sure it's only precautionary but still a bit of a worry

Yep, not quite following that Kyle is struggling ?!

Edit : ah OK, our posts crossed. I don't think / hope not that there is any big issue

I'd say so, unless savva is referring to some of the niggling injuries Kyle may be enduring at the moment

If Ward could somehow pull a rabbit out of the hat and win a couple of matches at the USO, I'd still expect him to play a part. But as sad as it makes me, I just can't see that happening at the moment. Hope I'm wrong on that one

Kyle for me is in pole position for that 2nd singles spot right now

Ktles definitely the number 2, I just hope he's fit, he's still physically maturing at this level and I still think that 5 setter against Robert really hurt him. I suspect he's find and dandy and he's certainly had a good swing in the US challys.
