Shame for Laura, but this was always going to be a huge test, given the quick turnaround. In her 1st career she struggled to back up big wins, and play to a high level day by day, so after 18 months out, this result isn't a huge surprise. Still overall a positive week assuming the body and most importantly the wrist have come through unscathed.

Agree. Positives to be taken and move on, build further ...
Disappointing for Laura Robson given that she beat a much higher ranked player yesterday but with such a short turn around physically it was going to be difficult.
Looking at the rules regarding "protected rankings" she apparently can use this for 8 events including 2 Grand Slams but importantly if I've understood the rule this doesn't include Wildcards so she still has 7 possible events to choose from. So far Eastbourne and Wimbledon were WC's aswell as this Granby event and shes only used her protected ranking for the US Open.
I think she needs careful planning when to use this and should try and get as many WC's as possible.
That looks like the sort of match that Naomi often lets get away from her - strong start, opponent hits back, and she fades away quickly in the deciding set. so well done to her for digging in and seeing that one through and not beating herself this time.
Two through to the QF is a solid showing.
I wonder if having a number of compatriots in the MD in an overseas draw has some effect.
Probably not as I can recall some pretty unsuccessful tours of Australia and the Far East by the Katy/ies/Harriet/Izzy etc and before them, Lisa/Tara/Naomi/Mel etc where one player did well, perhaps, in one event. The same has largely been, true from memory, in the States and Canada when Sam/Jade/Tara/Em/Jo etc have gone on tours either by design or coincidence together, with results like o's win in Edmonton, or Tara's win in Surprise, being the exception rather than the norm which would have perhaps demonstrated some positive effect.
Still, at very least, a guaranteed SF this week and hopes for a similar haul next week between Lexington (JK, NB, EWS) and Gatineau (NC, LR).
