Yes, playing 'back to back' matches including a doubles match first this morning. Doubles is 2nd match after 10 am start and her singles is 'not before 12' I think. Thats 3 matches potentially played in a 16hr period by my calculation. Quite a big ask.
Thankfully she will play her singles 1st, 5pm our time, her doubles is 4th on that court, after 2 men's matches, so effectively after suitable rest.
Glad you sussed that out Phil !! Not quite as bad as I thought.
Julia, the way to suss it is if you look at the OOP on the itf website, you will see a number of the far left - that represents the number the match is on that court. In a women's only event, that would just be 1, 2, 3 etc... but in a combined event, where both sexes are playing on the same court, you will see gaps.
So next to Laura's singles match is the number 2, which means she is second on that court (NB 12 local time). The first match on that court is a men's match (there a $100k men's challenger on as well). There will then be another men's singles on that court before Em and Jo go on for their doubles.
Similarly, you'll see a 4 on the left next to Laura's doubles match, because she's fourth on that court after a womens, and then two mens, matches.

So nice to see Laura with a win in both singles and doubles. I'm sure it will help her confidence no end. I believe she will move back up the rankings quite fast and into the top 200. Then just need a little more time to shake the rustiness off and get back to her previous best. It's just a joy to have her back and hopefully stay fully fit and well.
Very encouraging indeed from Laura both in beating such a relatively well ranked opponent and winning over three battling sets.
I would be prepared for her being less impressive today, but she can still take a lot from this already.
As she indicated and witness seemed to back this out at Wimbledon, the shots are there ( as they really still should be ), there's just so much more to adapt to to being back in match play and the rhythm of the match.
I think Laura is down to play 4 x 50K tournaments.
She has 11pts before this week and if she makes QF - she is guaranteed 15pts. So could pick up 60pts. This would put her to around a ranking of 400.
Laura can then start to use her PR to pick up further points a further 400pts to get her back into the top 100 ( she would need to win regularly on main tour to do this)

She has definitely got a WC for next weeks tournament in Canada, where the field is even weaker than this week.
For now I think it's about winning matches again. The ranking will take care of itself. Id find it surprising if within a year she'll be back top 50.
I'd like to see her win a few small titles on the way back up actually. It's something she hasn't done great on the pro-tour.
I agree with that entirely. It's all about getting used to match play situations and the physical combat of playing week in, week out. Laura put in some very big performances in big events to get her ranking up to what it was before the lay-off, and it might (and probably will) be a while before she can get back up to that level. She seems to be embracing the challenge and not looking too far ahead, which I think is wise, and as you say Merv the ranking will take care of itself in time as she keeps playing and (hopefully) winning.
Will be interesting to see how she does at the USO, having used her PR to enter there. all being well she'll at least arrive there on the back of some match wins and (fingers crossed) some titles on the lower rungs of the tour.
