RE: Week 29 - ITF ($50K) - Granby, Canada Hard

Well done to Jo and especially Naomi in a tough match - I imagine El Tabakh had a better read on her serve after their match last week so Naomi did well to get through.

As for Laura, a bad loss on paper but massive mitigating factors. She did so well to battle through yesterday but I expect she felt very tired today as a result. Had a second wind in the second set but she couldn't maintain the momentum. The key for Laura is that she comes out of each tournament with progress, and she has done that here.

And she's still playing the doubles - so more match experience, but not so tiring. Excellent! Well done.

Feeling semi-confident about today - I think we will get one Brit through out of two in both singles and doubles but no more than that.

I see the young Canadian junior took out Hesse and is into the QF

 I'm in complete agreement there.

Everybody in the tennis world is talking about the 14y/o lad who's made the quarters, some big Canadain talent coming through.

JoKo wins the first set 6-3. She broke three times which is a great effort against a big server.biggrin

Naomi has lost the first set 3-6. Broken three times, which with her serve is a disappointing effort.cry

Just the one break in the second set, but the same outcome, 6-3 to JoKo

Hope Naomi can turn her match round too

Sadly Naomi lost the second set 3-6. Only broken the one time, but couldn't get into her opponents serve. To be fair, it looked like a tough ask against the No. 1 seed who could go all the way in this tournament.

Happy for Jo, sad for Naomi.

Broady/Hesse 4 - 2 Robson/Routliffe

Ellie Halbauer, who beat Laura yesterday, managed to lose from 5-1 and match point up in the decider. Couldn't she have displayed those sort of choking capabilities yesterday?

Robson/Routcliffe 7 - 6 Broady/Hesse

A combination of good play by Laura and poor play by Hesse (I assume) means Robson/Routcliffe come back to take the first set

Hmmmmm?   No Aces and 6 double faults. (Might be someone we know and love )  Down 1 - 3 in the second.

Pretty sure none of those (now 10 dfs) were Laura's fault. She was either put off by her opponent or forced to go for it by Naomi's quality of returnswink

Anyway, 1-4 has become 5-4 in the second set and Laura is a game away
