Broom couldn't quite make it through in the end, losing out 7-6(3) in a 3rd set tie-break
Looks like a fairly epic match, Broom only won 4 points fewer out of 249 (!) but only managed to take 2 of 16 break point opportunities

Gutted for Charlie, whom I met in La Manga earlier this year when he was over in Spain training with Leon and Mark Hilts. Would have been great to see him pick up his first ranking point today, but seems like a terrific performance anyway. Hope he can take plenty of positives from today and move forward. That ranking point will come.

I honestly have so much respect for the young pros who travel week after week hunting for scraps of points. It must take quite a toll mentally as well as physically, so a lot of strength required to keep turning up and giving your all for such measly rewards
