Well done freer idea but we are still in crisis, overseas please.
Challengers are a heterogeneous feast of activity and a jungle too difficult to draw useful correlation from in isolation, bit like Laura's lack of ITF wins.
A lack of England under 21 caps at football is either a marker of being an NP1 footballer or one likely to significantly impact a World Cup. A plethora and your destined for the championship or at best senior caps but a club career warming the bench at Man City with an Indian summer of Mersey side mediocrity.
I count the home challengers as challenger light and challengers really only a marker of the holy grail ie main tour touring pro if the player is under 23 and it's a Challenger likely to have a decent field. A British challenger win at Binghamton under the age of 21 has an exciting precedent as to what may follow, that would definitely impact who I would support in an all British final.
Thanks for posting this, what I find amazing is that so many countries still staged Grass tournaments so recently. I do remember some of these taking place but, seeing the dates reminds me that they were much more recent than I thought. I enjoyed the grass court season so much again this year, it just seems tennis in its purest original form. I know that things have moved on but I would still love to see it feature more than it does.

no worries - though i really can't take any credit for it.
I think you are getting the nationality of opponent in final confused with the location of the tournamnt - all the grass finals were in the UK
Although what is noticeable is how many challengers we don't have anymore! ie. from the list there used to be a challengers at hull, bristol, cardiff, wrexham, shrewsbury, jerseyand sunderland (though admittedly probably not all been held in the same year in addition to surbiton, manchester, nottingham (x2)

Ha! That explains it. I remember India staging Grass challengers but some of the other countries left me gobsmacked. Apart from the Australian futures, I its just us now......maybe with the extra week it'll improve.
Further to the challenger final stats, the whole GB rankings / stats section contains a mine of information. Anyone at all interested in such info and hasn't really delved in should take a little time to do so and see what's there. The superb weekly top 25 tables were so featured that many may not be aware that there is so much else there : www.britishtennis.net
Good to see Steven ( their architect in chief ) seemingly popping into the forum more again these days. All the best to you, mate.

If he reaches the final, he's defended this week's points, right?
Yes, Kyle is defending 40 points and would get 48 points for reaching the final and 80 points for winning the title. Currently on 29 points for reaching the semi finals.
If he wins the title he will move up to 514 points ( 474 - 40 + 80 ), just ahead of James, who will drop to 511 points, which would apparently have both just outside the top 100.

Rightly or wrongly, I'd guess that Mr Fratangelo, who is having quite a good year, would be the one to watch in terms of spoiling our GB party.
Saw a tiny bit of the first match Mr Edmund played. Would agree with general consensus that forehand is Tour-class; first serve is fine, but 2nd serve would offer opportunities to a Tour-level opponent. But it evidently got him through! Congratulations.

Thanks! Probably not back much for a while yet but couldn't help noticing that there were two GB semi-finalists here That also reminded me that I should try to keep going with the tables that only require periodic updates when something specific happens, so I've updated the Challenger finalists table at http://www.britishtennis.net/gbtop25m/challfin.htm?n=1 (and hope to have to do it again before the end of this weekend!) - am I correct in thinking that Aljaz's win in Todi earlier this month is the only time a Brit has played a Challenger singles final since the same player won in Rome in March?

While I would love to say otherwise, you are correct, no other British challenger finalist since Aljaz in March apart from Aljaz himself earlier this month, but that could just be about to be added to ...
