RE: Week 29 - Challenger ($50,000) - LG&T Tennis Challenger, Binghamton, NY, USA (hard)

Serving for the set at *5-3, Kyle finds himself at 0-40, but a big forehand and a couple of service winners bring him back to deuce and he finally holds for the set.

But 39% 1st serve %age needs to improve.

Kyle wins 3&2. Looked in complete control from what I saw.

If he can win this comfortably whilst serving at 39%, it makes you wonder how convincingly he'd be winning if that percentage was in the 60s.

I've not worded that very well but you get the gist.

Agree with TMH. His 1st serve stat at the end was shown as 41% so to win as comfortably as he did off the back of that is testament to the quality of the rest of his game. His forehand is always a major weapon and so it proved in this match, but what I really liked about tonight was the solidity of the backhand. For me, when Kyle is short on matches, the timing on the backhand is the first thing to go and there were signs of rust in the first couple of rounds here. However, it was solid as a rock in this match, even though there seemed to be periods where Krueger targeted that wing.

Looking good, Kyle has been developing a real comfort at this level, but I was a little worried that being the number 1 seed might put a bit more pressure on him. Completely wrong to worry about that, great job so far, and that rust is disappearing fast.

Regarding further progress, to dominate whilst landing less than 50% of first serves ( didn't see second set stats, stopped watching at 3-1 as the writing was on the wall for Krueger) is exciting whilst showing enormous potential for improvement, top 75 players will feast on his second serve. Kyle looks very relaxed and seems to be wearing his seeding well ( I was worried too, he capitulated early last year in Bakersfield as no1 seed) apparently having a kick around with the ball boys/ girls and volunteers before his first game. I think he thinks he's Benteke!

Hopefully Brydan will dig out a result against Fratangelo but sure to be tough as although grinding out wins Brydan is doing well to hold his game together despite frustrating missfires on serve. An all British challenger final, too much to hope for but there can't have been many in living memory.

I asked myself the very same question re. all Brit challenger finals!  I bet there have been none outside the UK, but I don't think it would be an easy stat to research.  Anyway, we live in hope!  Good luck guys!

It is actually a very easy stat to research since the turn of the millenia due to a certain stat wizard compiling this list:

I was wrong it was nottingham the year was 2005 and it was boggo who defeated hilton in the final

If he reaches the final, he's defended this week's points, right?
