Week 29 - ATP 250 - Claro Open, Bogotá, Colombia (hard)

I guess we know where Colin & Booty will be playing next week...

QR1:  Alejandro Mendoza (BOL) WR 1009 (CH = 919 in October last year) vs Colin Fleming UNR (though he has a CH of 359 from September 2009)

Glad to see Mr Fleming playing Q singles more. Must be a little extra cash and practice - and he always seemed as if he could have been at least at the level of some of the regular players whom we consider singles specialists!

So much for my assuming that Colin was in Colombia with Booty...

R1:  Marcelo Demoliner & Adrián Menéndez (BRA/ESP) CR 246 (80+166) vs (4) Jonny Marray & Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi (PAK) CR 117 (60+57)

R1:  Colin Fleming & James Ward UNR vs (2) Sam Groth & Chris Guccione (AUS/AUS) CR 109 (61+48)  bleh

Looks that way Marray has found a top class partner. No idea what's going on with Colin's partners.

Colin won his singles 6-4 6-4 sadly to be ranked he ll need to beat top seed Matt Ebden so zero chance of that. Nice wee 350quid or so in his pocket though will buy his Partick Thistle season ticket. Good lad

James seeded eighth and has Michael Berrer first up. Probably about halfway down the list of potential match ups in terms of toughness. Some slightly tougher ones than Berrer avoided, but also some significantly easier ones too.

QR1:  Colin Fleming UNR defeated Alejandro Mendoza (BOL) WR 1009 by 4 & 4

QR2:  (q1) Matt Ebden (AUS) WR 135 (CH = 61 in October 2012) vs Colin Fleming UNR  bleh

*****

L32:  (8)  James Ward WR 89 (= CH) vs Michael Berrer (GER) WR 128 (CH = 42 in May 2010 - he's 35! aghast.gif )

The top seed in Dino's half of the draw is Big (he's 6'5") Bad Bernie Tomic, while the top seed overall is Big Ivo...

Nice to see James seeded for an ATP tournament, Berrer a fairly difficult match but the sort of match he'll need to win if he's going to maintain his place in the rankings for long

I agree to some extent thejester, I have always liked Berrer as a player but, drawing a 35 year old ranked 128 is about as good as its ever going to get at ATP level.

Really hope James is soaking all this up seeing himself seeded for an ATP tournament. It must surely give him extra motivation to keep progressing. As for his first round match here nothing less than a win is expected. He has to grasp this one and net the points. Hope he is not tired after travelling from Davis Cup duty.

I guess having seen James as the underdog for so long it's just quite strange to see him seeded and going into these matches as favourite! A happy kind of strange though

He's certainly not going into the match as favourite. Underdog with all the bookies and fairly so in my opinion considering everything. If anyone thinks otherwise I'd suggest they have an opportunity for a huge piece of value at the bookmakers.

Given what James has just been through with DC and the long journey he has ahead of him across multiple time zones, I'll be amazed if he is awake on Tuesday, let alone in a fit state to win the match. Hope I'm wrong but Berrer starts favourite for me.

Berrer maybe 35 but looked in great nick earlier this year physically. James must have had a shandy or two tonight and I can see him easily jumping off the plane onto the court only to be caught cold.
