CDs comments about funding are well made, Evo is a commited tennis professional not in the fine tuning of performance sense but in that he has been focused and groomed to be a top 150 ATP touring professional from childhood with no pther options being realistically considered, his talent level lies in the cohort of players that sit 75-140. The intangibles defining at which end of that cohort he sits. Unlike the other Brits at felixstowe he has performed to that level so its not about potential. On another day with a slightly different mindset he could have qualified for wimbledon even taking the long and ardous route that faced him, to me it is becoming increasingly clear that his present position reflects not playing due to injury and nothing else. For the other Brits all on wildcards wimbledon qualification was more an aspiration than reality.
In terms of facilitating a rapid return, playing some challenger qualifiers early perhaps just after Ireland looks the most promising route as there is a realistic chance of going deep even at Wimbledon Qualifying (which is the equivalent to a tough challenger) he had the form. Given his talent, watching Evo induces high expectations, he sits very close to James Ward in terms of realizing that potential, things panned out nicely in July for James lets hope this time next year we have 5 top 100 players.
I'm sure Dan would like to go down the Challenger and I think he will, but he needs to be honest with himself re. the level at which he is playing before deciding what to do after Dublin. He may need to hit the practice court for a couple of weeks first. He has been winning his matches which is great, but scorelines suggest many of them have been close. I have to confess to a vested interest though: I want to watch him play on the USTA's livestreaming!
OOP is out for today, Evo vs Thompson first on court 1 at 11:00, followed by Willis and Cox
RE: Dan Evans' plans after Dublin. It's impossible to know what Dan will do, the man is a maverick (which is why I love following him really). He could continue to play futures or he might move up to challenger qualifying. He might even disappear off the radar for the next month - nobody knows. I'm torn as to what I'd like to see him do personally. Whilst I think upping the quality of opposition by going into challengers would be of benefit, given the injuries he's had I'm not sure playing an extra 3 matches just to make the MD at a challenger would be the best option, but then again if you have to win 3 matches in the futures just to get the points you get from a R1 win at a challenger maybe that's not going to help either. I think challengers is the Higher Risk - Higher Return strategy, given that the max PTS to take from a futures event is, I think, 35 pts for a $15k+H. Equally, there's probably more chance of getting diddly squat out of those tournaments than at futures, but we know Dan's happier at the bigger events.
I suppose the 'better way' will be exposed when Dan goes down one or the other route and either succeeds or fails there. Hindsight is a female dog! For the time being I'm just glad to see Evo back on court and winning matches, whatever the level
Evo should have his ranking down to under 400 in the next few weeks, which will get him seeded at 15K, but not direct entry into challengers yet. The plan should be to mix 15K's and challengers.
I'm certain he will play the UK 15K's and will probably turn up at Segovia challenger after Dublin.
Dan has a set point on Thompson's serve with advantage at 5-4* Back and forth at Ad and deuce for several points, before a lengthy delay at deuce - The doubles match also appears to not be updating - could it be raining?

Evo's match appears to have disappeared from live scores, I'm assuming that means he closed it out? If so
Given that the Willis/Cox semi is scheduled to follow Evo/Thompson & is now on the board, I'd say that that was a fair assumption! No sign of an actual result that I can find, however. The LS has been crap all week...
