Good to see the stark improvement in Alex's game though since he went back to train in Spain - It won't be long before Evo is top 250, I am absolutely sure of that!

Here's hoping for another all GB final, don't know who to root for in the Cox / Willis match
Would like to see a repeat of the Frinton match between Evo and Thompson - pretty solid win for Dan there last week against the Aussie

Evo now back in top 500 I make it with all points going on. 8 to defend until next year. Even if he has an average 6 months he should still be top 300-400 by year end. Dublin next week is eh weak so shoul be another semi minimum.

And let's hope that Mr Ward is also back up in the 300s soon - well done to him on his recent results, also.

If Dan is only 300-400 by the year end, he will want to quit and pursue other careers. He probably wouldn't have too much choice either, there won't be any sensible funding options for a player who has been around for  so long and is still only on the Futures circuit. I'm sure his thinking is to get stateside after a week's rest after Dublin.  He'll have to qualify for the events where he had such success in 2013 - I remember his match against Vacek, I still have a copy of the stream.  He can qualify and go deep into those events.  I'm sure his own target is not less than top 200 by the year's end. It's not rocket science, he just has to win some matches on his favourite surface. Damn shamne he has no chance of making US Open qualies....

For Dan to be top 250 by year end I make he'd need to earn about 120 points for top 200 looks about 170.
Will be interesting to see his strategy after Ireland. Weather he decides to try qualifying for challengers or carries on with futures for a few more tournaments. Assuming most of his season remaining will be spent on hard I reckon a couple of hard 15ks(if there are some) followed by challenger Q's

if Dan Evans keeps winning at this pace, by end of this year he should be back in the 150s.

The safest option might be to camp in Sharm for a month in August then attack the challengers in the autumn. Will be interesting to see. Playing challengers when having to qualify is 3 wins for 3 points remember.

There's little I could less imagine than Evo camping up in Sharm for a month to play low level futures, however many points he could / should gather if he could keep motivated.

Probably not the best thing even for someone with that sort of ability and a lower boredom threshold.

If the fitness and form comes the points will come with a more varied and challenging schedule than that, and his game will be in a better place for being more challenged.

You are probably right Indiana and I agree with that but because of the way Dan is he really needs to be top 300 again soon. Honestly not sure the best way of doing it. Looks like Alex Ward is going to Sharm to get back up the rankings in August will probably work for him better. Can see him being top 300 by year end with the right schedule. He's been unlucky with two or three month gaps due to injury a couple times over the last 3 years stopping him getting in.

After Dublin I can see Dan disapearing before turning up for Roehampton and Nottingham 15k futures! With perhaps an overseas stint somewhere. I can also see a tactful foray into Challengers into or around the US Open when the cut offs drop off.

I think this applies way less to Dan Evans than various other players (re the lack of finance, I mean).

Dan's already earned about £20k this year. And he banked well over £100k in his 'big' year. That's a big cushion.

Not saying it's great but some of the others of his age (Dave Rice, Ed Corrie, Alex Ward, Marcus, etc. etc.) are in a far worse position re earnings than Evo. So, if they can keep going, it should be easy for Dan.

Although I agree re his aims and the possibility that it'll all be immaterial because he may (just may) have made the leap and be established at a decent-ish level.

If Evans win this week he would be ranked around the 410s. At that ranking I still think it makes more sense to play a couple of 15k events to get his ranking slightly before he tries to play challenger qualies (or sneak into the main draw). That would ensure he would seeded in qualifying unless it was a loaded challenger, however (as previous discussed) the qualifying is a lot of effort for a poor reward (3/5 points) however if he is motivated and on form it is obviously the best way to rocket up the rankings which, I imagine, is his aim. I can understand what ever choice he makes, as long as he is committed it will work in the long term.
