RE: Week 28 - ATP 250 - Newport, USA (Grass) - doubles

Jonny and Aisam into the final winning 6-7(4) 6-2 10-6

Only won 2 return points in the first but got better after that.

Great result to which to come home & a great relief:  I saw that they'd lost the first set before I left work & feared the worst as I logged on !  biggrin

I was so carried away rewatching Andy's Davis Cup quarter-final victory over Gilou that I lost track of developments elsewhere...

Final:  (3) Jonny Marray & Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi (PAK) CR 117 (60+57) defeated Nicolas Monroe & Mate Pavic CR 113 (64+69) by 4-6 6-3 [10-8]

Jonny & Aisam s! biggrin

Was actually 4-6 6-3 10-8 but key fact was great win for Jonny & Aisam who are also playing in Bogota- don't think it is a regular partnership but few more weeks like this one and who knows.
Noteworthy that Jonny's 3 top flight tournament wins are all with new partners
Wimbledon (w Freddie)
Chennai (w Y S Lu)
And Newport with Aisam
Don't know what to read into that but he should be back inside top 50 now. 😀

Indeed Topemp, spot on, ranking now 49. Hope they have a good run in Bogota too!

Great news! Always pleased to see Jonny doing well although a pity him and Colin didn't achieve much success together, I guess with doubles sometimes it just doesn't work even with 2 good players.

Hope Aisam and Jonny stay together although indications from the forum indicate this is a temporary arrangement?

Really pleased to see this result this morning. Hoping Jonny can settle in and find himself a regular partner; maybe this success with Aisam will convince them to give it a go together for a while. If not, moving back up the rankings should help with 'courting' potential partners I would imagine (excuse the pun)

As a result of that cracking win, Jonny has moved up 11 places to 49th in this week's rankings & Aisam 13 places to 44.
