Relatively straight- forward win for Jonny & Aisam, broke in 4th game of 1st set and 7th and 9th of the 2nd.
Will play Bury (BLR) & Siljestrom (SWE) in QF- another winnable sounding game, though their opponents knocked out D Brown & JP Smith in 1st Rd which is not too shabby.
Nice! The second seeds, Austin Krajicek & Rajeev Ram, or the unranked WCs, Ryan Harrison & Mark "Scud" Philippoussis ( 39 years young! ), in the semi...
What's 39? Paes and Nestor are still doing just fine at 42!
Nothing in this day & age, Spectator. It wasn't so much Scud's age that prompted me to use the "shock" smiley as the fact of his presence in the draw at all, as it's the first time I've seen his name on a draw sheet for donkey's years! He & Harrison may be unranked at the moment because Philippoussis currently has no doubles ranking, but the 45 points picked up courtesy of their first-round win should see him back on the radar.
Agreed. It's funny, isn't it, how players can feel as if they're from different eras simply because of when they stopped playing. Safin, for example, feels like a player from bygone days, but is younger than Karlovic and Stepanek ... and really only a year or so older than Federer. Anyway, hurrah for Philippoussis, so long as he doesn't beat Mr Marray and Mr Qureshi.
Roddick is another - he's younger than Federer believe it or not, yet has been retired three years and his best success closer to Sampras and Agassi's time than Murray and Djokovic's. Although I'd probably class him more in the 'weak Federer' era and the early 'big 4' era.
