strange choice of events for Beth for her first trip overseas for while and on an unfamiliar surface.

Looks like Clay is a no go surface for her and perhaps to a limited extent with Fran.

Yes, I thought so too.

Possible that she really dislikes the heat and wants to steer clear of all Southern European style places.

Or that maybe she's a very timid traveler and thought that Holland was a very 'safe' style of choice ....

But definitely a bit strange . . .

Another player overranked along with Jazzamay and Laura D. Misleads players into trips like this. Sharm should be her best bet just now.

What misleads people is the lack of GB 10ks.

Beth tweeted that clay was still a work in progress for her.

So it's possible she chose this for the clay court practice.

Although that doesn't really make sense - for someone of Beth's profile, a far better idea for clay court practice would be to organise a holiday for a couple of weeks at a clay court academy (in France or Spain), preferably when there was a decent clay court money tournament going on nearby at the same time (very easy, there's zillions).

Getting only one short singles match (always a big chance), and a bit of hitting time, is hardly a lot of practice.

 Blame wild cards

Jazzamay's ranking is only slightly flattered by 5pts at Surbiton. Laura D has earned all her pts. It would be a lot easier if there were more GB 10k/25k tournaments. Then the girls wouldn't have to go globetrotting. Also, we could use the wildcards to help our own players like every other country does - obviously the LTA knows better. disbelief
