So far Glasspool, Jamie Malik, Stoute and Gleeson(by retirement) are now in the main draw.
Jathan Malik is a set up and Rob Carter well up in the first set.
Hudson v Findell-Hawkins and Goodall v Whiteford not yet started
Does slightly make you wonder about Otto's claim (and that of others) that we need tons more events for our players . . .
That's a good point. It's really a 'chicken and egg' type of argument, perhaps best debated in the General Discussion forum. Do you establish these tournaments in the absence of players or wait for players to emerge in numbers sufficient to warrant the tournaments? Offhand, I would say you need to build the two hand in hand then continually invest in or support those tournaments where the growth is seen to be happening. A bit like the classic Proctor & Gamble case rate strategy (I use an analogy taken from marketing as we all know the top man is very keen on marketing). You spend in line with the numbers that justify the spending, continually supporting your winners.
I think Otto's point was more to do with building the competition side of tennis as a means to player development and how we go about that; the general idea being to create a UK-based hothouse of tennis competition from which elite players will eventually emerge. How we actually go about it, in terms of nuts and bolts, remains to be discussed.
